I think it’s fair to say that England have come on leaps and bounds under Fabio Capello. He’s made a good side look exceptional by giving them confidence in themselves. England aren’t a great side; that was shown as we were completely outclassed by Spain in a recent friendly. However, England fans are used to this stigma; what we like to see is effort and energy. Of course, winning doesn’t go amiss either, but the former are what we’ve been lacking for about 8 years now. However, our recent displays have been magical and have began to rekindle the olden days of Shearer and Sheringham. England’s new-found belief will have a wavering and ageing Ukraine side worried, and worried they should be too. I fancy a comfortable home win for England as they face some poor travellers at Wembley; 3-0 is my call.

The run has to end now, surely? Previously high-flying Wycombe Wanderers have been on an abysmal run of late with no wins in five games, which has seen them slump from the automatic promotion places down to the play-off places. They won’t like that one iota, especially having been cruising at the top of the division for the vast majority of the season. Tonight they entertain Barnet, arguably the worst side in the division. It really shouldn’t matter what form the hosts are in as to whether they win or not – I simply can’t see another outcome. Barnet are destined for the division below, either this year or next, so I’m content backing a home win in this game.
