Hull City vs Aston Villa

Today’s featured game is the English Premier League game between Hull City and Aston Villa. The game is massive for both sides with Hull needing to win to boost their chances of avoiding the drop and Aston Villa needing to win to try and claim a European place ahead of next season’s campaign so we should see a good open game tonight.

Hull City have frankly merited relegation this season; let’s be blunt about that. Any side that averages conceding over two goals per game doesn’t deserve to be playing top flight football. Only bottom club Portsmouth have won as few games as Hull have this season so it’s fair to say that Hull have struggled in attack too. They’re no pushovers at home with just five defeats at home all season but they’ve lost two out of their last three home games, the most recent of which was last match’s embarrassing 4-1 defeat against the worst away side in the division – Burnley. Hull took the lead in that game and still somehow lost to an inept Burnley side. Hull will have taken a heavy mental blow from that game as Burnley are relegation battlers themselves and despite claiming a valuable 0-0 draw at Birmingham City last match, the fact is that Hull aren’t playing well enough to win and winning is exactly what they must do. Nothing but three points will suffice here for Hull so being caught on the counter-attack may be something they have to try and ford at their peril.

Visitors Aston Villa have looked stretched for a while, something I’ve mentioned quite a lot. They don’t have the strength in-depth to be a force all season long and it’s beginning to show. However, a gritty display at Portsmouth last match saw them win the game 2-1 and they’ll have taken some decent momentum from this outcome. Given that only Manchester United and Chelsea have won more away games than Aston Villa in the Premier League this season, giving the visitors some momentum ahead of this game could be fatal. Aston Villa have been strong defensively on the road this season so I’ll be surprised if Hull break through them tonight. Villa have won their last two away games consecutively and have the firepower to damage Hull tonight, particularly on the inevitable counter-attacks, so I expect them to score at least once during this game, which should ultimately be enough to win them the encounter.

With Hull needing three points and having to attack Aston Villa tonight despite a lack of momentum, morale, and composure, I fear for them in this game. Villa are lethal on the counter-attack with their tremendous pace and they’re a very composed side in general so they shouldn’t have many problems dealing with Hull. I fully expect Villa to score at least one during this game and that realistically should be enough to see them win the game at generous odds of 11/10.

Verdict: Aston Villa to win at 11/10.

Wednesday’s Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Lyngby vs Viborg – home win at 10/11.

How long will Lyngby’s record go on for?! They’ve won every home game in the Danish 1st Division this season – all nine games – and average scoring nearly three goals per home game so they’re a constant force on their own turf. I backed out of recommending them to you all to beat AB Copenhagen last match as I thought it was a bridge too far but their determination won them the game so my faith in them is now of a sufficient level to back them to win today. They’ve played well of late either way with three wins in four games, their only defeat during that run coming at promotion rivals Fredericia so they shouldn’t be too disheartened. Lyngby are too big for this division and should really be in the Superligaen, in my opinion, and if they maintain their current level of form then they may just end up there. Lyngby are absolutely lethal at home and I expect them to get their own back on Viborg for back-to-back defeats in their last two games against tonight’s visitors.

Visitors Viborg make their living by not losing games. They don’t enjoy scoring or conceding goals so I think it’s fair to say that they’ll approach tonight’s game by attempting to prevent a potent Lyngby from adopting their usual free-scoring style. Viborg have only lost three out of their ten away games this season so they’re generally a tough nut to crack. However, I’m encouraged by the fact that they’ve looked a little weak of late with an unthinkable defeat at home against Thisted and a surprising draw at Roskilde last match so they’re certainly looking likely to stumble at the moment. Unfortunately for Viborg, their little blip has come as they take on the toughest home side in the division so I don’t think they’ve got enough momentum to resist their impressive hosts.

Although these two sides are generally capable of going blow-for-blow on their respective days, Lyngby have been phenomenal at home this season, particularly with goalscoring. They’re consistently good at home and should be again tonight and Viborg, for a change, are looking likely to lose a game although it should be a tight game as Viborg are strong defensively – well, unless Lyngby break through early! Either way, there should be some value in the home win at decent odds of 10/11.

Verdict: Lyngby to win at 10/11.

  1. Dont like tomorrow games….
Ill bet only for Schaffhausen and Red Star Belgrade@ 2,01
Ill try to recoup tonight Newtown disappointment with this. Please, no more goals in the last minute!!!!!!!!!

    • Not sure mate, I don’t cover it because I don’t know who is arsed about it. I’d say 1X because udinese need a route into Europe and Roma must surely focus on the league now that they’re winning it.

      Good luck all

  2. Hey guys.

Estudiantes won for me last night so thats the first part of my four fold in.

My other 3 teams consist of Vasco De Gama from Brazil and 2 teams from the Serbian league OFK Belgrade and FK Metalac.

1). Vasco De Gama vs Corinthians.

This game is pretty straightforward for the Vasco boys! I really dont see Corinthians causing any problems here.

Vasco have only 5 losses in the last 23 which is quite a good record whilst Corinthians have failed to register a win in 8.

Vasco has a young talented squad and have a experienced striker by the name of Dodo who’s hit a very respectable 11 goals in 14 games, so he’s a striker in form.

Another reason why im taking this game is the fact that Vasco have only lost 8 games at home since 05, averaging 2 losses at home a season. I personally think thats a good record that anyteam in the world would take.

Corinthians on the hand have a poor squad who dont score goals and concede many, They are piss poor home and away so i think the odds of 1/4 is a bargin!

should be a formallity for Vasco.

2). OFK Belgrade vs Borac Cacak

OFK needs the points from this game as they push for a 3rd place finish and the final european place, OFK are only two points behind third placed Spartak Subotica so this is a must win.

OFK have home advantge with this game which is what they need because they are a good team at home where they have only lost 3 out of 12 games and averaging 1.5 goals a game and concede under a goal a game.

Borac on the other hand are terrible away from home! if it wasnt for their home form then they’d be in a lot of trouble now as their away form is shocking!

Borac are in mid-table obscurity and have nothing to play for so i dont see them going hell for leather in this game. Borac away form reads like this…

1 win in 12 away games.
average goals away from home is a whopping 0.17!!
    conceding over 1.5
only scored 3 goals away from home

Borac are no goal threat away from home (or at home to be honest) and their top scorer is a 38 year old defender by the name of Dmitrovic who has 3 goals!!

I fully expect a home win here.

    3) FK Metalac vs Cukaricki

FK were promoted last season and are doing well in the top division (6th) and they have made their home Cika Daca stadium a fortress. FK have recorded 8 wins out of 12 at home this season and have only recoreded 3 losses in the last 13.

Cukaricki on the other hand are struggling and are planted on the bottom with a piss poor goal difference.

Cukaricki away form reads like this…

    one win in 12
scoring on average a low 0.58
    conceding over 2 on average
1 clean sheet away from home

Cukaricki are a team in trouble! they only won 6 out of the last 30 games going back to last season and it will be a minor miracle if they avoid relegation this season.

for this treble ive been quoted 2.5/1

not massive odds but pretty much easy money earned.

    goodluck all

    • Nice previews again Phil. Thanks for the info.

Good luck mate. Hopefully none of these will “do a Newton” tonight.

      Fingers,toes,ears,bollocks,everything else crossed! :D

  3. Just the one acca for me today, fingers crossed. Good luck everyone.

1 Aston Villa @ 2.00 (Hull struggling, Villa pushing for euro spot)
2 Schaffhausen @ 1.75 ( good home record, Wohlen poor away record)
3 Vojvodina @ 2.00 (Mladi Radnik poor form, can’t see Vojvodina losing)
4 Tromso @ 1.61 (tromso won last 4 at home, Sandefjord lost last 3 away)

    • Yes, yes, I fucking know haha. My excuse is that these were re-arranged games – they don’t always come up on the site I use. Should both end in home wins anyway, not much value in those games barring Tromso in-play if they take a while to score.

  4. First and foremost, congratulations to any nutcase that decide to back Estudiantes last night against a resilient Alianza. The red-card was controversial and many were saved by the not-so-beautiful Mr.Veron but que sera sera.

Not a lot that tickles my fancy tonight so I’ll be going high stakes on one game and decide where to go from there in terms of South America.

    Stabæk v Hønefoss BK

Tonight we have an encounter in the Telenor Arena between two teams travelling in the opposite direction.

Hønefoss SURELY can’t get any worse! They’ve conceded a whopping 18 goals in 6 games. Their 3 away games have seen them concede 13 goals so it’s obvious where their problem lies. At home they tend to be a little more “solid” but this really is a team that already looks doomed.

Stabæk proved last round that they’re a force to be reckoned with at home by beating Kongsvinger 4-2 at home. They held Vålerenga to a 1-1 draw in their first home game and their only defeat being beaten by high-flying Tromsø by a single goal which is no shame since Tromsø have already picked up 13 points in 6 league games. My only problem with this Stabæk side is that they tend to let the visiting team settle in the first half. However, in Nannskog and Diogo they have two very talented strikers who after scoring a hatful between them last match will want to add to their tally tonight.

Everything points to what should be “one-way traffic”. The Telenor Arena isn’t in the greatest condition after the recent Metallica contest but even this won’t be enough for Hønefoss to pick up their first point in the league. No disrespect to Hønefoss whatsoever but the least they could do now is go out with some pride and dignity and give their few travelling support something to cheer about.

    Verdict – Stabæk win @ 1.29 with Bet28

I’d be wary on betting on Stabæk to win both halves because as I mentioned previously they do tend to relax a little during the opening hour before hitting the gears.

I’m not yet ready to take Stabæk to beat the handicap just yet even against a side like Hønefoss because their two wins have been 3-2 and 4-2 (with the latter being a very late goal).

    Good luck guys :)

  5. Personally, I’d leave the Villa game well and truly alone.

IMHO you can’t read too much into that 4-1 thumping Burnley gave Hull, it was just one of those days! Prior to that this was Hull’s record at home:

Two great wins against Citeh and Fulham, two solid performances against in-form Wolves and the Chavs and a defeat to Arsenal which hardly anyone can condemn. The Burnley game they scored way too early, you may think I’m talking bullshit but the amount of times you see a home side score early and relax and get slaughtered it’s untrue.

    Moving on swiftly to Villa:

Mediocre wins against a Cahill-less Bolton (then) and Pompey is hardly something to rave about. I was absolutely disgusted as an Evertonian when we came away with only a point against them at Villa Park. Give Ashley Young and Agbonlahor a kick IN THE STARTING 5 minutes and they become useless. I rate Villa as one of, if not, the best counter-attacking teams in the league. In Milner they have the English player of the season for me and he’s going to be key tonight (yet again). However, put Dunne and his ginger-partner against pace and they struggle. Kevin Doyle does have pace and will give them a run tonight nonetheless.

The thing with this game is Hull have to win and that means they have to attack from the word go which is going to leave them exposed. Villa will rely as they always have done under O’Neill on counter-attacking. Kick Young and the distribution is over. Kick Milner (and Hunt almost certainly will!) and they get rattled as United showed at Wembley. Agbonlahor isn’t firing on all cylinders and if he had been I’d have put my house on Villa tonight. Dawson will relish playing Carew tonight I feel and it’s really a case of which side wants it more.

Villa previous two visits to the KC have both been a 1-0 victory so if you go by stats it does favour them tonight. IMHO the odds should be:

    1 X 2
    3.13 3.37 2.07
    29% 27% 44%

IN-PLAY screams to me :) Good luck if you guys do or already have taken Villa.

    • Kevin Doyle actually plays for Wolves !!! and Stephen Hunt is out injured for the rest of the season !!!! :-)

    • Kevin Doyle actually plays for Wolves !!! and Stephen Hunt is out for the rest of the season !!!

      • For fuck sake I keep getting Wolves and Hull mixed up because of the same coloured shirts.

In that case I’ll take Villa. Now I look like a right twit :(

  6. Definitely going in play in the Aston Villa game, but I do just fancy them to nick it and put the pressure back on Pool.

    • I’m surprised that they lost as I thought they’d win but a draw was possible – Metalac aren’t as good as their league placing indicates. Cukaricki are often relegation battlers but they are experienced at it so it was a tough game. Unlucky mate.

  7. Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can watch football for free on the internet? All the websites that I know let me down and I was wondering if anyone knew a really good one that covers must matches, even those lower down in the leagues?

    • myp2p.eu

      atdhe.net

      rojadirecta.org

      p2p4u.net

      justin.tv

      ustream.tv

veetle.com – for all the “big” games but also has a lot of South American and MLS games.

      Have a pick! :)

      • Thamks mate! The three I use are myp2p.eu, atdhe.net and justin.tv. But it annoys me that I’m sometimes restricted when placing bets because I can’t view the match. Because I’m still doing that thing where I’m placing like £5000 on odds of like 1/1000 and building it up, but it requires a lot of effort. Let’s say Arsenal are beating Tottenham 1-0 and the match is approaching half time, sometimes William Hill leave markets open until the half time whistle, for example, a Half Time Handicap of +1 for Arsenal. So if one minute is added on at the end of the half, then I just wait and place the bet when the referee’s about to blow his whistle. Even when the half is over, William Hill are delayed from closing that particular market. Anyway, it’s things like that which I bet on and I’ve made just over £400 in the last month so it’s going alright actually. But it’s so frustrating when you try to find the match live and can’t find it. I couldn’t made £1000′s yesterday because of two mistakes by William Hill. :(

  8. I’m not in a position to confirm it yet, guys, but allegedly Monterrey are taking a second string to Paraguay for their game with Nacional. Nacional don’t need to win the game but they look a decent bet at tasty odds. Will confirm this information if and when it’s confirmed to me!

    • I can confirm it mate. Monterrey are second out their youth but will play their normal keeper because Ortiz is injured. Monterrey’s manager isn’t travel to Paraguay either but with both teams eliminated I don’t know how either side will approach the game! The Mexicans have been publicly criticised by the media for the way they’ve approached the Libertadores so I wouldn’t be surprised if they put up a show. The odds show value but I wouldn’t lose sleep if this ended out being a draw.

  9. I was going to take Tromso in play but I’ll ride it out now – Ramovic has been taken off. He’s a key part of their back five, one of the better (although more crazy) Eliteserien keepers and I doubt their defensive strength in this game as a result. I think they can score again but I don’t know if they can do it without Sandefjord scoring.

Good luck if you take it guys

  10. Bloody Schaffhausen have got 1-0 down, strange movement in their odds right before kick off….

  11. ah ffs, theres my night blown on the first bloody bet! Just as i got on schaffshausen the odds went up and up, obviously a few people knew something i didnt :(

  12. I’m fucked too. Stabaek just don’t want to score a bloody goal AND Diogo has come off :(

    • Honefoss are bad enough to concede at any time and appear to tire a lot at the end of games, just like Xerez at the start of their season. I wouldn’t give up just yet – the only thing Stabaek can do consistently is score goals.

      • I just bloody know it though mate. Whenever I post stuff like the opposition “has conceded 13 goals in 3 games” it ends up being 0-0 :(

Now I’m truely bricking it. 10 minutes to go!

          • Unless my score monitor is wrong, it’s Honefoss that have scored…in which case, luck is against you massively, Toffeeboy. Hope my score monitor is totally wrong!!

          • I’ve lost all hope in gambling when a team with 6 straight defeats travels and wins a game with 10 men.

  13. Unfucking believable..Honefoss 6 straight defeats. 2 goals all season..go 10 men down AND score a 90th minute winner. Shower of c*nts the lot of Stabaek. I really hope they get relegated.

    • a great shit…the football is crazyyyyyyy…I dont understand anything!!!!!!!!!

    • That is some serious bad luck mate. I hate those runs. I’d ride it for a while, do the old “invisible bets” routine until you’re back on your feet luck-wise.

      • I was contemplating just that mate. I did it yesterday with Djurgardens and Inter double.

Tonight I decide I must post atleast one of my two bets – ironically the other bet was Tromso to win..had I kept my gob shut about Stabaek they perhaps might have followed suit.

Betfair – 210 grand Euro on Stabaek win and 18 grand on Honefoss LAY. Such is my state that i’m getting pleasure out of other people’s loss alongside me.

I might save up my ‘fund’ and wait for the World Cup.

      • I feel you man I have some serious revision that needs to be done for when I go back to uni and this betting is screwing me… Go light on some small odds accas, say 4/1-7-1. Your luck will turn don’t worry, take a break and come back and kill the bookies.

  14. AND TO MAKE IT FUCKING WORST AGBONLAHOR PUTS ONE IN! WHY THE FUCK DO I NEVER TRUST MY INSTINCTS..

Bloody bullshit. God/Karma/Sam Allardyce/Jebus they all bloody hate me.

On the bright side it could have been worst. I could have been a Grimbsy fan:

This should put a little smile on your face. I read it whenever I lose “A LOT” of money :(

“Dear Players of Grimsby Town FC

I am writing with regard to my absolute astonishment and disbelief as
to the sheer magnitude of your complete lack of talent and failure to
carry out the job for which you are paid to do. I am not aware of any
swear word or other derogatory phrase in my current vocabulary which
comes close to a description of your ‘performance’ (and I use that term
loosely) this afternoon, but let me just say that you have collectively
reached a level of inadequacy and ineptitude that neither I nor modern
    science had previously considered possible.

In fact I recall a time, in my youth, when I decided to call in sick at
work and instead spent the entire day in my one bedroom flat wearing
nothing but my underpants, eating toast and w***ing furiously over
second-rate Scandinavian porn. Yet somehow, I still managed to
contribute more to my employer in that one Andrex-filled day than you
complete bunch of toss-baskets have contributed to this club in your
    entire time here.

I would genuinely like to know how you pathetic little p***flaps sleep
at night, knowing full well that you have taken my money and that of
several thousand others and delivered precisely f**k all in return. I
run a business myself, and I believe I could take any 4,000 of my
customers at random; burn down their houses, impregnate their wives and
then dismember their children before systematically sending them back in
the post, limb-by-limb, and still ensure a level of customer
satisfaction which exceeds that which I have experienced at Blundell
Park at any time so far this season.

You are a total disgrace, not only to your profession, not only to the
human race, but to nature itself. This may sound like an exaggeration,
but believe me when I say that I have passed kidney stones which have
brought me a greater level of pleasure and entertainment than watching
each of you worthless excuses for professional footballers attempt to
play a game you are clearly incapable of playing, week-in, week-out.

I considered, for a second, that I was perhaps being a little too
    harsh.
But then I recalled that I have blindly given you all the benefit of the
doubt for too long now. Yes, for too long you have failed to earn the
air you’ve been breathing by offering any kind of tangible quality
either as footballers or as people in general. As such, I feel it’s only
fair that your supply runs out forthwith.

I trust, at this precise moment in time, that Mr Fenty is in his office
tapping away on the Easyjet web site booking you all one-way flights to
Zurich, complete with an overnight stay with our cheese eating friends
at Dignitas. Don’t bother packing your toothbrush – you won’t need it.

In the event that our beloved chairman can’t afford the expense
(understandable given that he’s soon going to have to assemble a new
squad from scratch), then I am prepared to sell my family (including my
    unborn
child) to a dubious consortium of Middle Eastern businessmen in order to
pay for the flights. Christ, I’ll drive you there myself, one-by one,
without sleep, if I have to.

Failing that, understanding that most dubious Middle Eastern
businessmen are tied-up purchasing Premier League football clubs, I ask
you to please take matters into your hands. Use your imagination, guys -
strangle yourselves or cover yourself in tinfoil and take a fork to a
nearby plug socket, or something. Just put yourselves and us fans out of
    our collective misery.

So, in summary, you pack of repugnant, sputum-filled, invertebrate
b***ards; leave this club now and don’t you f**king dare look back.
You’ve consistently demonstrated less passion and desire than can
commonly be found within the contents of a sloth’s scrotum, so frankly
you can just all f**k off – don’t pass go, don’t collect your wages,
don’t ever come back to this town again.

I look forward to you serving me at my local McDonald’s drive-thru in
    the near future.”

    • I second that.

Red Star, Lynby and by the looks of it Schaffhausen couldn’t even buy a goal if they tried let alone win a football match.

I’m off down to Birdcage tonight. If you see a miserable drunk by the pole-dance do not approach! :(

2 assignments for uni can go sack itself as well.

        • Birdcage in Manchester mate. Opposite Tiger Tiger.

Tranny night tonight. Might as well lol..atleast i’ll get to see that loon Anderson and Diouf drinking 42Below with their tops off pretending to be solid.

          • Yeah I know mate, that’s why I thought you should have your outfit ready ;)

Haha maybe so. I don’t venture out into Manchester often these days.

          • I gave up going out after my first year at uni. It’s all the same: uni tarts trying to get picked up by greasy footballers, bunch of “hard” lads lingering outside Picadilly thinking they’re the dogs bollocks, prima-donnas flashing their gear etc.

I go out in the hope to meet Micah Richards at Subway at half four in the morning so he can buy (show) me a foot-long ;)

  15. Odds of 12 for Hull to come back and win look crazy, they’re at home and are facing relegation.. Although I still think Aston Villa should win it, Hull have heart might put a couple of quid on it. Also Ribery just sent off, keep an eye on that one in play. If Bayern go 1-0 up the draw could have some tasty odds or even a Lyon win.

    • Villa should be too good defensively mate – one of the best defensive records in the Prem atm.

I wouldn’t touch Bayern vs Lyon. I thought Bayern were too short for this game but these two sides are fairly unpredictabe – Bayern can’t defend for shit but seem to score despite lacking in good strikers. Lyon have a great attack that just doesn’t show up half the time. I’d avoid this one like the plague.

Good luck if you try it though

    • Don’t worry fella. We’re on the same boat. I’m going to build up my betting fund for the World Cup and rape every bookie within a mile radius of me. Not literally.

  16. Oh that’s cheered me up. Was watching the post-match interview on the Stabaek – Honefoss game and (I’m guessing a Stabaek fan) this lad pitch-side just runs up and lobs a bottle at the gaffer and starts screaming “KUNT! KUNT! KUNT!”..Brilliant. That’s my consolation.

  17. I dont know if i should put my money on Bayern draw. What do you think? I see 0-0

  18. Any views on tonights Copa Libertadores? Thinking of going for Nacional as others have mentioned..

    • It’s not a great card. Club Nacional de Montevideo should win at home – they’re lethal there and one of the most experienced sides in the tournament but…why win it? No need. They’re far too short for a side that doesn’t need to win the game.

Nacional Asuncion are playing a Monterrey side missing players but again…why win it? Unimportant game, but possibly worth a punt at generous odds.

Chilean derby? Wouldn’t touch it if my life depended upon it – anything can happen in that one.

Sao Paulo, Flamengo, and Banfield look good acca fodder but little else – maybe a nibble at Sao Paulo on the handicap.

      Good luck mate

  19. Imo, there was something very dodgy about that swiss schafssen v wohlen match!

Still onwards and upwards hopefully on tonights copa, gone for a treble, banfield, flamengo and sao paulo
