Today’s secondary featured game is the Spanish Primera Liga game in Madrid between Rayo Vallecano de Madrid and league leaders Real Madrid.
I just can’t look past the gulf in class here. Rayo have already lost six home games this season from just eleven Primera Liga games – only rock-bottom Zaragoza have lost as many home games as that! Fortunately, Rayo’s counter-attack on the road has done them the power of good but they’re very vulnerable at home. Rayo’s defence is easily stretched and let’s face it – they’re very short on quality due to not being able to reinforce the squad because of financial issues.
Today they’re hosting what is effectively the best side in Spain this season – Real Madrid. They’ll be disappointed to have thrown away the lead in Russia earlier this week against CSKA Moscow as they dominated the game. However, Mourinho’s side has finally adopted his winning mentality and a simple failure to win doesn’t appear to destroy their world anymore. Real Madrid are top of the league this season not because they’re better than Barcelona but because they perfect beating the lesser sides. Real Madrid have won nine out of eleven on the road this season and average scoring nearly three goals per away game. They’re never reliable defensively but I’m going to be stunned if they don’t score at least two or three goals here.
Benzema is out but there’s more than enough firepower in Real Madrid’s ranks to secure a dominating win against their vastly inferior hosts. For me, there’s value on Real Madrid beating the -1.5 handicap today.
Verdict: Real Madrid to beat the -1.5 handicap at 6/5.

Sunday’s Picks
My tips:
As ever, please find my value tips listed below in no particular order:
Norwich City vs Manchester United – home win with a +1 Asian Handicap at evens.
I’m a Man Utd fan so I truly hope this tip loses but I have to admit that there’s value in it, at least from my perspective!
Norwich have been one of the hardest sides to face in the Premier League this season at Carrow Road. No side has had an easy game against Lambert’s boys and I doubt that’ll change today. Their physical strength, tenacity, and desire to score goals makes Norwich an absolute nightmare to face.
When Norwich came to play United at Old Trafford earlier this season, I was there, as usual. I expected United to win without playing well but whilst being in control of the game. It’s traditional that United don’t destroy newly-promoted sides – I don’t know why, but they almost never do. Anyway, I couldn’t have been more wrong with my expectations as Norwich ran the show and really should have won the game. A lack of composure hurt them whereas United took their chances and won 2-0.
A lot has changed since then in terms of players getting more weary etc. United entered a strong run of form and Norwich are never far from a good run themselves, although they have looked a bit leggy from time to time in the past few weeks. Nonetheless, I expect these two sides to give each other a thorough game here. Norwich’s defence is far from secure but their attack can trouble United in this game.
The most crucial element for United has to be the absence of Valencia, though. He’s been their best player since the turn of the year and tends to have a hand in most of their goals. Now, United have a big squad and can put someone in his place but the trouble is that only one other person provides an outlet like he does and that’s Nani. For me, Nani is outstanding and unplayable but he’s not fully fit following his injury yet and it shows. Young isn’t good enough/confident enough to do the job so United’s wide game could be in real jeopardy here. If they lose the wide game then they’re going to struggle to score goals, especially with Cleverley injured again.
That plays a big part in my tip, really. If Nani turns it on then United can win the game but I don’t expect a dominating win if so. I anticipate a close game and I’d be lying if I said that I thought Norwich had no chance of getting a result here because they do. Whether this tip wins or not depends on a couple of factors but I don’t think it’ll lose unless United do something unexpected here.
Verdict: Norwich City to win with a +1 Asian Handicap at evens.
Siena vs Palermo – both sides to score at 4/5.
Target man Calaio is out for Siena but it doesn’t take anything special to score against Palermo so I think that they’ll still manage it here. Siena aren’t a particularly good side and have gone off the boil a bit lately but Palermo on the road can concede against anyone. They pay little attention to defending, hence their predicament. However, they’ve come on leaps and bounds since the signing of Donati in midfield with Palermo’s attacking game improving massively. Miccoli was already a handful before but with Donati behind him and big Budan in decent form alongside him, Palermo look a real threat, even away from home! They’re playing well right now, Palermo, but I still can’t ever bring myself to back them to win away from home! However, I do think that they’re playing well enough to score here and they’re defending badly enough to allow Siena to score so taking both sides to score at 4/5 interests me a lot here.
Verdict: Both sides to score at 4/5.
Lazio vs Fiorentina – home win at 6/5.
Lazio are in disarray following Reja’s second attempt to resign but the Lazio board refused. With that having happened, though, it’s only a matter of time until Reja does move on, one way or another. However, Lazio are the kind of club that are never far from disarray in one way or another and they seem to thrive on it in a way that I can’t explain; perhaps the underdog factor? They’ve got a big squad and plenty of quality players so they should be able to produce at least a decent display here. To be honest, I don’t envision it taking more than that for Fiorentina to lose this game. They’re a dreadful away side with no adventure nor attacking threat away from Florence. They lose all confidence and composure on the road and I can’t see that improving here, especially with the likelihood that Amauri will miss this game. Fiorentina’s midfield may have pace but it’s predictable and lacks leadership. A good first twenty minutes or so should be enough for Lazio to control the game and although this is likely to develop into a scrappy game, I think Lazio have more than enough to win the game and thus the home win appeals to me at 6/5.
Verdict: Lazio to win at 6/5.
PSV Eindhoven vs Feyenoord Rotterdam – away win with +1.5 handicap at 4/5.
Alright, so PSV are richer than Feyenoord and arguably possess better players than them. Should they really be so short here, though? I don’t think so. I’m really happy with PSV’s devastating attack, youthful though it unquestionably is. They’ve got so many talented attacking options that it’s easy to see why people often over-estimate PSV. However, take a while to watch their defence – it’s truly frightening. This backline has no cohesion, little communication, and zero faith in goalkeeper Isaksson. They constantly make mistakes and thus you’ll almost never find PSV keeping a clean sheet.
Feyenoord deploy a similar game to PSV with similar results. Feyenoord’s squad is younger, though, and thus they make more mistakes than PSV. However, in terms of attacking, Feyenoord aren’t bad themselves. They’re notorious for rearing talented attacking players, which includes playmaker Wijndalum, now with PSV Eindhoven. They still have talented attacking players, however, and they love to upset the odds!
Now, the big talk for this game is regarding Swedish striker Guidetti, who is with Feyenoord on loan from Manchester City. This striker is tearing up the Eredivisie and is a big part of Feyenoord’s attack. However, an act of stupidity against RKC Waalwijk means he misses this game today. He scored a penalty as the game drew to a close against RKC, took his shirt off in celebration, and received his second yellow card of the game. RKC managed to equalise with a header before the end of the game and Feyenoord drew 1-1 in a game that they really should have won. Guidetti has thus been suspended by the Dutch FA for this game – very stupid move from Guidetti, if you ask me.
However, it looks like his absence has heavily contributed to PSV’s short odds and that’s something I don’t agree with. Feyenoord have other talented attacking players and boy do they hate PSV! Half the squad Feyenoord has now was part of the massacre that took place in Eindhoven not so long ago so there’s no way that they won’t give 100% here.
I expect an open game with plenty of goals here but I don’t see why PSV are so short. Maybe they will win the game; they arguably should. Feyenoord are capable of surprises in big games, though, and I expect them to show up here. Whether they lose the game or not, I think giving Feyenoord a +1.5 handicap at 4/5 is very appealing here.
Verdict: Feyenoord Rotterdam to win with a +1.5 handicap at 4/5.

Limited number of bets of interest today.
1. Mlada Boleslav -1 against Zizkov (Czech League) at 2.20 ***9.15am start***
Zizkov are financially ruined, sold off whoever they could an brought in about 12 players over the winter. In the last five games, they’ve lost five, scoring once and conceding 10. Four of thise games took place before they got rid of most of their team. Dukla beat their new team 3-0 last week and I expect a similar scoreline today from Mlada who could replace Plzen in third place here with a win.
2. FC Porto -2 to beat Feirense @ 2.00
Benfica’s form stuttered once again yesterday as they were held to a 0-0 draw with Academica. Their performances over the last few weeks have asked the most serious question yet to usurp Porto from their position of dominance. Porto sit 3 points behind Benfica, with a game in hand and a goal difference of +1 over benfica. The season may literally come down to goals and todays match offers Porto a great chance to lay down a very difficult to follow marker. Feirense are a promoted team who aren’t in the habit of scoring very many goals (14 in 18 games, GD -14). They have picked up 4 points from 9 away games so a trip to Porto should get quite rough for them. Porto’s stats against City midweek were actually quite impressive, plenty of attacks, City’s rearguard held strong though. The same should not be the case tonight. Feirense are holding onto their status in this league by the skin of their teeth. They are meeting a Porto team who have a potentially season-defining clash versus Benfica in five days time. Full points here are a minimum requirement and I expect it to be a resounding win. These two teams drew 0-0 early in the season. In that game Rodriguez was shown the line and Hulf and Pereira were missing with injury. I expect a comprehensive victory with a team who smell blood from their faltering challengers for the title.
Valur Reykavik HT/FT versus Hottur (Icelandic League Cup) @ 1.44.
These initial games have given us some easy profits as the top teams play 3rd division teams a lot sooner than in the UK. They are the defending champions in this competition and are playing a team from Division 3 who were relegated from division 2 last year. Valur should be a couple of goals up by halftime so, without a handicap option, I expect them to be in front at the break and at fulltime.
Maccabi Haifi to beat B. Jerusalem @ 1.53
One of Israel’s giants is finally getting its act together after a slow start to the league. They’ve won their last 3 games with an aggregate score of 9-3. B Jerusalem have the worst form in the league, last 5 games, 1W, 1 Draw, 3 Losses GF1, GA 7. In November, Haifi beat Jerusalem 4:1 away.
Best of luck!
Good Luck Coco, I will not be placing a bet as I do not want to jinx you :) Ian you also picked a few blinders recently; although I hate following other peoples tips. A well done is deserved.
OK, that’s me officially out of the betting business! Went for Mlada…
On a huge losing streak, time to stop.
They should have enough to do it – they’re just not very reliable.
I think conceding in the first minute against the worst side in the division is a pretty good sign to stop.
Hi Brian, I know where you’re coming from, I lost a lot of money on a streak last week. Betting can be fun but can also be awful. Best of luck.
Thanksmate,it’sappreciated.
Know the feeling of late Brian. I took a while out, did the power of good.
Porto win to Nil 4/5 looks a steal, Feirense dont score many Poto dont concede many, goals that Feirense have scored away are against teams in bottom three(odds Coral)
Personally wouldn`t touch that with a barge pole! Porto commit too many players in attack time after time and are wide open to the counter, which co-incidentally is how Feirense love to play and get a lot of their goals. There`s more to a bet than just stats,Porto should win comfortably but with the way both play I would be around 70% sure both will score. Not a market Im interested in playing on this game. Good luck either way.
Rangers 4/5 thinking that is tasty! Still got the quality to despose of Inverness and then some!! See how that goes then dnb spurs 1/1. Think that is decent.
1.I thought that chievo will easily cesena at home cesena can try to make a result but on the road cesena can’t do nothing and chievo have the firepower to upset cesena!!!2.osasuna at home they have put great teams in difficulties and agains a granada team with only 3 win and 8 loss on the road osasuna will give them a lesson!!!3.mlada boleslav will easily and definetly upset the weakest team in that czech divion zizkov(they simply don’t know how to play football)!good luck to all of you
“definitely”? There’s never anything definite about Mlada Boleslav when they play away from home. They’re a very temperamental side.

A quick early morning bet, Turbine Postdam women(top of Bundesliga) to beat Bayer Leverkusen(bottom of Bundesliga) women -4 on handicap. This has cleared easily the last two times they’ve met.
Hope noone followed me on this, complete domination doesn’t always mean goals!
Unfortunately i had a punt on -3
2 Singles for me…
Real Madrid – 1.5 @ 2.10
Sheffield Wed/Utd Over 2.5 @ 9/10
Real Madrid -1 AH at 1.6
Viktoria Plzen vs Dukla Praha Over 2.5 at 1.625
Valur vs Hottur (Iceland LC) Over 3.5 at 1.60
@4.16 – Medium stake
Taking the favorits in these 3 games(Real,Viktoria and Valur) makes about 2.145 and it looks safe bet , as long as there is a safe bet, when you put 3 games in it. I did it as well just to back up the other treble, hope that both come in.
i dont understand why would you go on over 2,5 in a game like viktoria plzen -dukla.do you see a 3-0 or 2-1 .i never take an over 2,5 in a game with a big favorite and a team who will try to defend most of the game.
Probably because Dukla don’t defend – they attack.
Two attacking sides, Plzen scoring a lot at home (at least in the first part of the season) and concede almost every game..My only concern is the fatigue after the game with Shalke, but they still have some depth in their squad.
Dukla got man sent off, I hope this doesn’t kill their attacking maner as I need one more goal till the end.
vallecano/r.madrid over 2.5 – arsenal/totenham over 2.5 £100 returns £250 G.L.
Just some fun bets:
Bayern -1.5. 2.30 Schalke game went to extra time the other day and they sneaked past the battling Plzen. Dont think a trip to Bayern who have beaten the handicap on their last 4 home games is what Schalke need right now and fatigue may show if they go down early. I dont agree with the table that Bayern are only one place “better” than Schalke, either.Schalke can cause probelms so it is a risk but good odds imo.
Real Madrid -1.5 @ 2.3. Real are priced at 1.35 for the win.. just feel 2.35 is too much for -1.5. RM have scored 30 goals away in 11 and although they have the quality to ride out a 0-1 1-2 vicotry – their style of play and the fact that any team needs to kill the game off makes the odds very attractive to me.
Plzen v Dukla – over 3.5 @ 2.75. Plzen can score 3 here, 4 maybe is a push but i do expect 2-3 from them to keep the bet interesting. Last 4 Plzen home games have gone over 4.5 (before the break) and Dukla did score 3 in their last game against the dismal Ziskov – this should at least bring them some confidence.
All odds against, so take them knowing that. im gonna be home all day so fancied some longer shots.. rather than to hammer Roda who lose at 1.36 :(
Best of luck with the handicap bet on Real but with Real having played in midweek, travelled 4,300 miles and missing their best striker, I’ll be steering clear. This is a derby match, not a very historic one, but still a derby. It didn’t do Vallecano much good earlier in the season when they were beaten 6-2 at the Bernabeu but they have improved steadily since then. They’ve won their last three games, scoring 9 and conceding four. They are in with a realistic shout of aiming for Europe. My preferred option would be BTTS. I hope we both win :)
Nice info. Didnt know its a derby… Would you say real madrid -1.5 is short @ 2.35? they should be longer?
Just thought the price is big and if you keep taking value bets then it should see you some profit!
I think the odds for the handicap look good if Vallecano roll over. They play in a tiny stadium with 15,500 capacity and have fanatical fans. They are more of a Segunda team than Primera, having spent most of their existence there. Madrid are an amazing side but if they aren’t allowed to settle, this game could get scrappy. Vallecano are a little static so Madrid’s pace should bother them. I hate betting against teams who are in good form, especially on the handicap. I’d far prefer to put my money on a team like Porto playing at home against a poor Feirense side than on Real away against a form side like Vallecano. I hope it comes in.
Agreed with BTTS Rayo v Real
Also siena v Palermo and Arsenal v Spurs Treble BTTS

A small treble to round off the weekend.
(a) Saprissa to beat Orion (Costa Rican League) @ 1.25
Saprissa are second from top of the league and a win here would see them move within three points of leaders Zeledon. Their record reads P8 W5 D2 L1 GF17 GA11. Orion are rock bottom in the league, picked up their first win last week beating fellow strugglers Puntarenas 2-1. Their record reads P8 W1 D1 L6 GF6 GA17. Their away form has been woeful. In four away games they’ve lost all of them, scoring 3 goals and conceding 12. Saprissa won their two meetings last year, 1-0 at home last season and 1-4 away this season.
(b) Racing Club to beat Banfield @ 1.61.
Racing Club haven’t had a great start to 2012. A home draw (0-0) with Tigre was followed by an away loss (1-0) to Godoy Cruz. The runners-up of the Apertura to Boca, they had an excellent home record last year of P9 W5 D3 L1 GF11 GA5.
Their strikers are never the most prolific anyway but should get out of the blocks tonight. Banfield are a poor team. They’ve started 2012 with two clear losses (3-0, 4-0). Their record in the Apertura was woeful. From 10 away games, they had one victory and nine losses, GF4 GA18. They’ve lost their last seven games in a row. I expect it’ll be eight after tonight.
(c) Napoli to beat Inter @ 1.8.
Two teams with only one point separating Napoli(6th) and Inter(7th). Thats where similarities end as the two teams are polar opposites in form at the moment. Napoli’s attack against Chelsea was breathtaking at times last Tuesday and the way they recovered from conceding early was very impressive. They miss Hamsik (suspension) and Campagnaro (injury) who will be replaced by Pandev and Britos. Lavezzi and Cavani are really coming into form and Inler creates a lot from midfield.
Inter have the worst form in Serie A at the moment. Seven losses in their last eight games in all competitions, their defence has become particularly porous. In their last five games in Serie A, they’ve conceded 13 goals and scored four. Their last big performance was in beating rivals AC 1-0 on the 15th January. AC dominated that game (64% possession) but were beaten by a Milito goal. Inter still have potential game-winners whose pride must be seriously dented by all that has gone on. The danger exists that they may be able to recreate a performance like that tonight. Their loss to Marseille on Wednesday was a slight improvement on recent performances. Forlan looked dangerous at times and they were unlucky to lose to the last kick of the game. I don’t rate Marseille really. Valbuena’s a good player but the team is full of average players. A loss here could see Rainieri clear out his desk and Napoli’s Mazzari has already been linked with his job. If Napoli play to their abilities, there should only be one winner. Inter have no fluidity and pose very little attacking threat.

Ian,
Great stuff with the consultancy tip mate, exactly how you called it and a big price to boot. cheers bud!
Thanks mate :)
Yep,same here Ian,spot on buddy, did not go big on it,as had a pretty bad run this week, but done it as my main bet today. And done DNB with Barca win…Well done……..
Still singing at the moment,
you’ll never walk alone, alone ,you’ll never walk alone
Being a Liverpool supporter, and living near Cardiff the only time in my life where i would loved Cardiff to win as much as Liverpool,as they played their asses off and deserved it so much, great game..
Still got a small treble running also,Galatasaray (won,only just).4/5
Napoli win 10/11
Lillle win 7/4
£7 treble return £66….
Don’t know why, but mostly I have better success during the week, make some cash and lose it in the weekend … It is like in the weekend bookies are offering too short odds on the good bets and that reflects in me taking bigger risk adding too many games to boost the odds or just making riskier singles.
However, that Plzen game was supposed to come in , left with one man more and totally dominating the game .. just bad luck I guess, but that is second in a row for me after yesterday Benfica was unable to capitalise on some great chances to score.
But the bad luck has to end at some point, two doubles for me just to end the poor weekend, at least chasing some bigger value even with small bets:
Lazio at 2.025
Bologna vs Udinese Under 2.0
just above 4.0
and second double:
Porto -1.5 at 1.45
Barcelona -1.0, -1.5 at 2.025
around 3.0
I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself. A lot of favourites this weekend have failed to deliver – it was just one of those difficult weekends where you have to be wary, really.
Thanks, mate. I am just shocked how sometimes everything goes in exact the opposite direction of any logic and if I only knew that it will be one of those weekends… :)))
Hey, you’re preaching to the converted here! I’ve watched Benfica fail to score against a side that they’re 2 or 3 times better than this week – top that!!
Looks like the same thing in Porto game, complete dominance, goalkeeper making world class saves, annoyingly familiar…
He also saves penalties….
Chin up nitra, you still won the tipster comp mate, got to be worth a smile. :) :)
Messi 1st scorer & Barca win @ 3/1
Insane match in Argentina, two reds, 11 yellow cards, Racing couldn’t score in a barrel of f*nnies. Need a third from Porto.
Porto, 22 shots on goal, 11 on target, one missed peno, goodnight and good luck.
Goals scored by both Ronaldo & Messi = magnificent.
Couldn’t believe Ronaldo scored like that.
And that was one crazy angle from Messi.
Messi & ronaldo earned me a 150 euro.today, both real and barca are in my combo with a Galatasaray,i should add them Elmander too,he scored 2 goals to Besiktas in a derby.
Thanks guys:)))
