FAQ

What is the purpose of this site?

Our role here is basically to seek out good value bets. If you’ve got the intelligence to dress yourselves in the morning and also locate this site then we’re going out on a limb to presume that you’ll know that a 1/6 home side is generally going to win their home games – that type of bet doesn’t interest us. We want tips of good value that obviously bear greater risk but also bear greater profit. Our role is to basically give you a better chance of winning, not to guarantee you a win, as that’s frankly impossible. Our motto is “We’re good; not God” so bear that in mind when taking our betting advice! We try to keep our tips to odds of 3/4 (1.75) or longer to keep things interesting so don’t go chucking money blindly at our tips or you’ve only got yourselves to blame!

How does this damn site work?

Well, I’ve designed this section purely for those of you who are struggling to understand how my betting tips work.

First of all, we have the day’s featured game. The featured game is basically my “game of the day” because of a good combination between likelihood and value on the odds.

You’ll then find the remainder of my tips under “my tips” with the necessary analysis’ beneath them.

Below that, you’ll find “accumulator fodder” (which is basically a list of sides that really should win their respective games and thus can be used to boost accumulators) and “recommended bets”, which is a list of bets (usually multiples) that appeal to me.

After that, you have my thoughts on the day’s games. I’d hasten to point out that they are not necessarily my tips but purely my thoughts and I’d also point out that if I’ve not mentioned them before the list of my thoughts on the day’s games then chances are I see no use/value on them whatsoever so be very careful.

As for the list itself – the team I select in bold is the team I back to win the game. If both teams are in bold, then I have backed a draw. The number after the teams is the level of confidence I feel in my selection out of 10. Also, don’t misconstrue what a rating of 2 would mean – I still think it will happen, I’m just not as confident as with other fixtures for various reasons i.e. a derby match. Examples are below.

AC Milanvs Siena (10) – Basically, if AC Milan fail to win this game, the world will implode. Naturally this is an exaggeration but you should get the gist of my point as a result!

Man Utd vs Chelsea (3) – I think Man Utd should win the game, but I won’t be putting my house on it because there are a lot of risk elements involved.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid (5) – I’m fairly confdent this will end up a draw.

The only slight complication may be the information I add after the selection. For instance, you might see a scoreline or a first goalscorer, which is pretty self-explanitory. However, if you see -0.5 or -1.5 etc. then it’s a recommended handicap bet for the side in bold.  If it’s ever a +0.5 or +1.5 etc. then I’ll mention that it’s for the side not in bold. Also, please don’t misconstrue what I mean by placing the scorelines on some games. They are the scorelines I think should happen but if I put a side to win 2-0, for instance, this is not an endorsement of a handicap bet, strange as it may sound. I will mention if a handicap is recommended but a scoreline of 2-0 means I think it should end that way and not that the side is necessarily playing well enough for me to be confident on backing the handicap.

What is the difference between accumulator fodder and recommended bets?

Accumulator fodder is basically a list of sides that have a very good chance of winning their games and can be added to multiples/accumulators to boost the odds – it just saves you all scrolling through the entire list of games that I’ve posted my thoughts on. Recommended bets are as the title suggests – bets that I recommend, usually doubles or trebles.

Comments section

I’m all in favour of people posting comments, be they positive or negative, with the proviso that they’re useful. I will actively delete any comments that are pointless and/or stupid so keep it logical. All I want to see there are comments relating to bets, the odd bit of banter, and perhaps tips for other sports if you have any. I do not endorse live commentary there (we have a section on the forum for it) nor dead statements (i.e. OMG TEAM X LOST 1-0) as they’re pointless.

Partnerships/Co-operation:

Whereas I don’t want to seem martyr-esque, we at The Footy Tipster do like to help other like-minded sites as best we can to achieve success if we deem them worthwhile for our punters. We’re open to most suggestions regarding links or partnerships so feel free to ask. We’re also available for “rent”, for want of a better word! Basically, if you’re a betting tips website yourself and want to increase your website’s hits and success rates by employing us to write some tips for you then we’re open to doing this. Needless to say that there is a fee for this service (this fee is open to discussion) and that fee would be increased if you wanted exclusive tips (this fee is also open to discussion) because as charitable as we like to be, we don’t utilise the majority of our time to simply give free tips to other websites, unfortunately. There is also a service in operation whereby we will verify your bets for you, if you so desire, identifying potential weaknesses etc. We don’t want to seem like Scrooge here – we will answer questions about games on the site – but this service is for people who consistently ask questions about their respective bets who seek assurances and consultation regarding them. The fee for this service is naturally open to negotiation. If you have any queries on the above then feel free to email us at thefootytipster@gmail.com, which we’d recommend as different punters have different styles and although we’re very accomodating with what we cover, you don’t see the range of tips that we cover on the site because the purporse of the site isn’t necessarily going to coincide with the way each punter bets. We often find that a free trial is the way forward and we have clients that can provide testimonies for us if you desire them!

Success Rates

We’ve had a few questions of late regarding why we don’t post our success rates on this website. Well, there’s some good reasoning behind that, at least in our eyes. Basically, we like people to formulate their own opinions of the website without having any expecatations. For instance, if we put that the success rate was 80% then if you followed our tips and lost the first time around, you’d most likely leave and assume we were liars. However, if we put that the success rate is 45%, then people aren’t interested and simply leave. That, personally, is rather offensive considering the amount of hard work that is continuously put into this site. Our motto is “We’re good, not God” so we like it much better if you form your own opinions over time and then decide whether you want to stick with us for some good tips and laughs or if you wish to go elsewhere.

Incidentally, the above reasoning is the reason we don’t charge people to use the free value tips on the site – we can’t guarantee your success. If we could guarantee that then we’d feel justified in charging people but there’s just no guarantees in betting. We can categorically state that there will never be charges for punters to use this site – the site itself will always be free in essence. I should also point out that there is a membership service on the site which there is a fee for but it’s only there for those who wish to donate to the site. The perks of doing so can be read on the “membership” tab at the top of the page. There is also a consultancy page in which you can pay for tips and you will be guaranteed a profit, hence the charge for the service. Naturally, there are more details of this service on the “consultancy” tab.

Do you offer in-play/trading tips?

No, but we can recommend a fine tipster who does. Check out http://www.thefootballtradingservice.com/ - TFT can personally vouch for his quality, knowledge, and consistency so give it a go if this is what you’re looking for!

How quickly do you respond to emails?

Well, we try to respond within 1-2 hours if it’s regarding a bet. If it’s about a link or a different enquiry, it may take a little longer. Unfortunately, sleep is essential on occasion but that is the only time of day that the site is not manned.

What competitions do we cover?

This is quite simply a list of the football leagues & competitions I will make predictions on. This list may be added to or have some removed at any given time, although I do try and maintain consistency in that respect. Do you have a banner I can use?

Yes! Here is the link to it, please do not hotlink it -> http://thefootytipster.com/images/tftBanner.jpg

Will you take part in a link exchange with us?

Generally speaking no, for the following reason -> http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=66356

However, some webmasters engage in link exchange schemes and build partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking, disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their sites. This is in violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines and can negatively impact your site’s ranking in search results. Examples of link schemes can include:

  • Links intended to manipulate PageRank
  • Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web
  • Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging (“Link to me and I’ll link to you.”)
  • Buying or selling links that pass PageRank

The site seems down?

Unless we have posted otherwise, you could check the status of TFT.

I have been doing my football coupon every week since the start of the season and I have only won once, just been really unlucky. So I decided to throw my tips out of the window and go with yours. So I have gone with you 3 times and won twice, So the tips are muchly appreciated.

  9. Excellent website.

I do appreciate the tips provided without doubt, but what I really appreciate is the in depth research. This research can be difficult to do on non-English Leagues and I really like the detail.

I wish the best of success to the people behind the site and would like to offer my encouragement for them to continue.

    Thanks

I seen japan Croatia the other day and you said lay japan at 5/6? Just wondered
    Cheers pal

    • Lay = X1 or X2, depending on who you are laying. It basically means that the side you are “laying” will not win the game.
