Udinese vs Fiorentina

Today's featured game is the match between Udinese and Fiorentina in the Italian Serie A. Hosts Udinese had been tipped pre-season for a very good campaign but have generally failed to deliver consistently thus far, hence their unconvincing league placing. However, their actual potential has begun to surface lately with a two-match unbeaten run and a morale-boosting victory against Serie A giants AS Roma. Udinese's biggest problem is that they're really poor on the road but fortunately this isn't a problem today for obvious reasons! Only Internazionale and Sampdoria have currently got a better record at home than Udinese. The hosts today have won four of their six home games, drawing once and losing once along the way. Today they host a Fiorentina side that have started to look increasingly stretched of late with just one win in their last five Serie A games. A mid-week clash didn't assist matters either with talismanic striker Adrian Mutu obtaining an injury during this game and thus missing the match today. With form and numbers of available players dwindling, the Viola are beginning to look rather fragile, in my humble opinion. Fiorentina have won just once in five away games this season, losing twice and drawing twice. Although Fiorentina are not a side that generally leaks goals, Udinese are a side that does enjoy scoring them, particularly at home, something which is proven by the fact that only Internazionale and Sampdoria have scored more home goals than they have. Although neither of these two sides are playing as well as they should be at the present time, there's a clear selection of a home win for today's game in my opinion due to the above information. Frankly, 7/5 on the home win looks a real bargain today for me!

Sunday's Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Udinese vs Fiorentina - home win at 7/5 - see introduction for full details.

San Lorenzo de Almagro vs Banfield - home win at evens. This should be a fantastic game between two of the most in-form sides in Argentina currently! Both sides have won three of their last five games and occupy third and first place respectively in the Argentinian Primera Division. Visitors Banfield are the more surprising side in this position as they're not really good enough to be there but you can only beat what's in front of you! San Lorenzo de Almagro are currently a side I expect to be challenging for the title and they're duly delivering. The hosts have won four from six home games so far this season, drawing twice. They average nearly two goals per home game and are generally a tricky opponent. Visitors Banfield are resilient and currently efficient, although that's not always been the case. The game should be a cracker due to the contrasting styles of both sides but San Lorenzo de Almagro have enough to win this game against what can be bluntly called "lesser opponents". The visitors may be unbeaten this season but they've not convinced on the road yet with four draws from six away games, winning just twice in that run. I think a record may end today with a San Lorenzo de Almagro victory and at evens, it's very good value.

Estudiantes De La Plata vs Velez Sarsfeld - home win at evens. This is yet another fascinating clash in Argentina between two top sides, arguably the two best in Argentina currently. Both sides will be competing for the title this year and this match will go some way in indicating just which side has the ability to go all the way. In terms of quality, I personally believe there's very little between these two sides - both can match each other toe-to-toe on their day. Estudiantes De La Plata have proven that they're a very accomplished home side in this campaign, however, with four wins and one draw from their five home games. That said, Velez Sarsfeld are arguably the best away side in Argentina and have shown such a thing for at least a year now. The only thing that is really tipping the scales in the favour of Estudiantes De La Plata for me is that simple fact that Velez Sarsfeld had an extremely tiring trip to a very high altitude Ecuador to face Liga de Quito in the Copa Nissan Sudamericana, which they were knocked out of. Therefore, the visitors will not only be tired but will also be a little worse for wear mentally. In my opinion, it's worth taking the home win on the back of that at evens.

SV Ried vs Austria Karnten - home win with -1.75 handicap at 10/11. This is a complete no-brainer in my book due to the consistent quality of SV Ried at home and the woeful displays of Austria Karnten.

Racing Genk vs Anderlecht - away win at 10/11. Recent years has shown Racing Genk emerging as one of Belgium's bigger sides, although still languishing behind the old guard of Anderlecht, Club Brugge, and Standard de Liege. Racing Genk are struggled to live up to their tag this season with just four wins in thirteen games. Their good performances this season can be counted on the fingers of one hand but their potential is always there. However, their home form has to be a real worry for them as they've won just one home game out of seven so far this season, losing three times and drawing three times. This should be a more apparent problem today as they take on an in-form and superior Anderlecht side that have already won four out of six away games this season. Anderlecht have the momentum to do it as they've won three games in a row and they've got the ability so an out-of-sorts Racing Genk should be susceptible enough for Anderlecht to win this game at 10/11.

Standard de Liege vs Club Brugge - away win at draw no bet odds of 5/4. This is an incredibly bold choice given that Club Brugge almost never take anything off Standard de Liege but I've been really impressed with them this season. Club Brugge have won five consecutive games in all conditions, including a notable victory in a difficult Serbian venue against Partizan Belgrade in the UEFA Europa League. The visitors have everything going for them and have already won four out of their six away games this season, losing just once. Standard de Liege simply don't look the same side this year due to their losses and it's starting to show. More notably, the loss of midfield playmaker and captain Steven Defour due to long-term injury has really affected the potency of Standard de Liege of late and their league form has suffered because of it as they've not won in three games now. With all this in mind, the away win with draw no bet at 5/4 looks like a potential bargain today.

Aalborg BK vs FC Copenhagen - away win at 23/20. The Superligaen's oddest side today hosts the Superligaen's best side in what should be an interesting match. Aalborg BK are capable of playing very good football but appear to have decided not to for the time being with no wins in five games, a run that has seen them lose three games. I don't need to tell you all the quality difference between FC Copenhagen and the rest of the Superligaen sides but their form of late also shows them to be a real force with four wins in their past five games. FC Copenhagen have already won four of their seven away games this year and have conceded just five goals on their travels, which affirms their reputation of being hard to beat. If Aalborg BK were in form then I wouldn't touch this game with a barge pole but I'm going to take advantage of their present slump by taking FC Copenhagen to win at Aalborg BK at 23/20.

Hull City vs Stoke City - away win at 8/5. Hull City's woeful form of late continues, furthering speculation regarding Phil Brown's future at the club. Three defeats and just one victory in their last five games leaves Hull City looking increasingly likely to prove all the pre-season pundits right as they seemingly attempt to move down a division into the Championship. The fact that they've scored just eight goals in eleven games should tell you everything you need to know about their problems, particularly as no side in the Premier League has scored less goals. Visitors Stoke City are the side that Hull City should be attempting to emulate to prolong their stay in the Premier League by adopting a no-nonsense, efficient footballing manner to grind out results. Stoke City are now what I would call an established Premier League side that will give any side a good game on their day. They're hard to break down and they take their chances, particularly from set pieces. Stoke City are unbeaten in their last four games, winning two of them, and appear to have gotten even stronger since last year. No side has lost less away games than Stoke City in the Premier League this year and the fact that they won here last year should give them additional confidence in getting the job done. Stoke City are frankly a better unit than Hull City on every level and with the hosts playing some terrible football, it's hard to overlook the away win at 8/5.

West Ham United vs Everton - home win at 6/4. West Ham United's performances have finally started improving and their results are beginning to show it too. They're unbeaten in their last three games, including a home game against Arsenal, and won their last match mid-week at home to Aston Villa. I have to admire Gianfranco Zola's side because they always turn up for each game and put 110% into their football. West Ham United are a mid-table side by rights and I fully expect them to be there by the end of the season. Visitors Everton seem to be going from bad to worse with their small squad beyond stretched already with games coming out of their ears! They've not won in their last four games now, drawing three times and losing once. A mid-week battering at home by SL Benfica will have knocked the wind out of the few players they have left in their squad and this is yet another game that is coming at David Moyes far too quickly for him to prepare his squad. For me, a rejuvenated West Ham United have a great chance of winning this game today at 6/4.

Chelsea vs Manchester United - home win at 21/20. As much as I hate to say it, as a Manchester United fan, but I am very much afraid that we'll see a home win in this game. Although Manchester United have been a bogey side for Chelsea ever since Jose Mourinho moved on, Chelsea are now firing on all cylinders under Carlo Ancelotti and are scoring goals for fun. Not only will this trouble a shaky and frankly nervous Manchester United defence, but this defence is also missing the experienced Rio Ferdinand through injury. The only thing I would emphasise with this game is some caution as these two sides are the two best sides in England and either is capable of turning it on at any given time. Manchester United tend to really turn up when the odds are against them, which gives me some hope as a fan, but their dire displays in their other two games against members of the "big four" - Arsenal and Liverpool - this season really make me think that Ferguson will again select Scholes and Carrick in the middle of the park, who again will be overrun by the likes of Essien etc. Bluntly, I'm concerned about this game because I think almost everything points to a home win, which basically means 21/20 on the home win is good value, particularly as Chelsea have won every competitive home game this season.

Xanthi vs Panionios -home win at 11/10. Hosts Xanthi lie deceptively just outside of the relegation zone as they entertain Panionios. Their away form is atrocious but their home fom is superb with three wins and one draw from their four home games this season. Basically, they're a tricky side to face and Panionios will have their work cut out to steal a result here because of that. Aside from that, Panionios have lost three of their four away games this season and appear to be mirroring Xanthi's lack of ability on the road. For me, this game has a narrow home win written all over it at 11/10.

Sevilla CF vs Villarreal - lay Sevilla at 5/4. This is an extremely bold call given the impressive displays that Sevilla CF have given this season but as ever, I have my reasons. The foundation for this call is that Sevilla CF have become somewhat complacent of late. They've drawn at home against Espanyol without scoring and they drew at home to a woeful VFB Stuttgart just a few days ago. The hosts simply aren't doing what they do best at the present time despite their magnificent season thus far - it simply happens to big sides sometimes and it appears that time is now upon Sevilla CF. Unfortunately for them, visitors Villarreal have well and truly awoken with a bang and are on fire at the moment with both goalscoring and form. They've amassed a highly-impressive twelve goals in their last four competitve games, winning three games and drawing the other. They smashed four goals past Lazio mid-week are starting to look their old selves again. Basically, I think this game is going to be an awful lot closer than people think and with odds of 5/4 for laying a side that hasn't won either of their last two competitive games at home seems very good value to me - potentially!

Elche vs Real Union Club de Irun - home win at 10/11. Both of these side appear to have a long battle ahead of them to stay in the Segunda Liga this year so this kind of game will be vital for both. Elche have more experience in this division than newly-promoted Real Union Club de Irun and it's shown so far. Elche are unbeaten in their last four games, winning two of them, and have gained substantial momentum from these results. Real Union Club de Irun have already lost three of their five away games this season and enter this game with two defeats in their last three games. For me, there's clear value in the home win at 10/11 for Elche as they boast a better quality of player and better level of momentum at the present time.

Llaneros de Guanare vs Deportivo Italia - away win at 21/20. Llaneros de Guanare are having a campaign to forget as they've won just once in eleven games. They've lost a heavy six games in the process and three defeats in their last five games leaves the bottom-placed club precariously placed as other sides begin to pull away from them. Unfortunately for Llaneros de Guanare, they are today hosting one of Venezuela's "big three" - Deportivo Italia. The visitors are currently third in the Primera Division with seven wins from eleven games. They've won three of their last five games and have the best away record in the league with four wins from five away games. They've got the momentum and the quality to win this game so I fancy Deportivo Italia to overcome Llaneros de Guanare with considerable ease tonight at 21/20.

Sporting Braga vs Porto

Today's featured game is in the Liga Sagres between Sporting Braga and Porto. Sporting Braga currently sit atop the Liga Sagres with four wins from their opening four games, including a win at Sporting Clube de Lisboa. I find this interesting becase I don't think Sporting Braga have played well enough to be where they are but nonetheless I give credit to them for some impressive results. I also find it interesting because I think they've got a much poorer coach now than the talented Jorge Jesus has moved on to SL Benfica in summer. Effectively, I think Sporting Braga are punching above their weight and are simply waiting to be knocked down. Enter reigning champions Porto! Much like their hosts, Porto are unbeaten in this campaign. However, unlike their hosts, they've shown reason as to why they're one of the top clubs in the Liga Sagres by scoring plenty of goals and conceding very few. Porto will be disappointed to have lost away to Chelsea despite having a few good chances of their own so will be looking to bounce back at Sporting Braga. Although I would classify Sporting Braga as a good side, I still wouldn't put them anywhere near Porto. The visitors have so much more class and finesse that the hosts simply shouldn't be able to compete. It's been that way in this fixture for two years running now; each time Porto has won the game. I think Sporting Braga are due a reality check and Porto look well-placed to be the side that gives them that kick! Frankly, the away win at 11/10 looks a real bargain!

Saturday's Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Sporting Braga vs Porto - away win at 11/10 - see introduction for full details.

Independiente vs Velez Sarsfeld - away win at 6/4. This is is a bit of a dubious call because Independiente are only ever good at home but Velez Sarsfeld's form of late has convinced me that they're more than capable of winning this game. Three wins and one draw from their last four league games and a mid-week victory over Boca Juniors in the Copa Nissan Sudamericana tells me that the visitors today have tremendous morale and momentum. Independiente generally make their home games count because they're atrocious away from home but this season it's been rather varied with two wins and two defeats, one of each at home and away from home. Their mixed form leaves me even more confident that a well-organised, efficient and solid Velez Sarsfeld will have no trouble dismantling the hosts tonight, particularly as the hosts find it hard to score goals currently at home and the visitors haven't conceded any on the road yet this season. It should be quite a tight game but an away win looks favourable at 6/4.

Independiente de Santa Fe Bogota vs Atletico Junior Barranquilla - home win at 11/10. Assuming that this game actually finishes (i.e. it's not interrupted by pitch invasions, riots, excessive red cards etc.) then I feel confident it'll be a home win. Four home wins from four games so far signals the intent of Independiente de Santa Fe Bogota. They're averaging at least three goals per game at home and look a frightening opponent at the present time. Atletico Junior Barranquilla are a good side and boast an even better home record than Independiente de Santa Fe Bogota but unfortunately own an extremely poor away record. In fact, today's visitors have lost three times and drawn once on the road this season, making them susceptible cannon fodder for an impressive Independiente de Santa Fe Bogota today. I can't put it more simply so I'll simply state that 11/10 on a home win here is an absolute steal!

Aston Villa vs Portsmouth - lay Aston Villa at 15/8. This is a very risky call but I'm going to ride it. Aston Villa simply haven't got going yet in any competition, something that has already seen them crash out of the Europa League to Austria's Rapid Vienna. They hustled and bustled their way to three points last match in a local rivalry match with Birmingham City without really deserving the victory. Despite their record showing three straight wins, including a very impressive (but fortunate) win away to Liverpool, I'm just not convinced. I think they've been fortunate to win all of these games and although you do need fortune to win games, it shouldn't be the focal point of your wins for the majority of the time, which it is. I also believe that Aston Villa don't perform well as the favourites to win a game. My reasoning behind that is because they're a very counter-attacking side with great pace but little ability to break down resilient defences currently. All that coupled with a supposed bust-up between manager Martin O'Neill and midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker recently (resulting in the player being left out of the squad today) tells me that Aston Villa might not have it all their own way today. Portsmouth have been playing better lately now the issues surrounding their ownership have been resolved. The chairman appears to have restored some clarity regarding Paul Hart's future at the club and the club have signed many new players just before the deadline to boost their chances of survival. They can count themselves highly unlucky to obtain nothing from the game at home to Bolton Wanderers are a spirited display and a touch of misfortune here and there, particularly with the conceding of a penalty. Portsmouth will be coming here with some belief from their last game and with even more determination to end their woeful run of form and they've got the players to cause problems in a shaky Aston Villa defence. Whereas I think this is far from a dead cert, I do think there's potential value in laying Aston Villa at 15/8.

Middlesbrough vs West Bromwich Albion - home win at 6/5. This was a tough call to make but one I agree with even in retrospect. Both of these sides are playing very good football and gaining very impressive results but there's only side between these two that are currently playing like a Premiership side would and that's Middlesbrough. The visitors today are conceding too many goals of late and are often falling behind before taking the lead. I simply don't believe that can happen today. If they fall behind against Middlesbrough then they'll be very lucky to get a draw from the game. Middlesbrough are barely conceding and look impressive every time I see them. In my opinion, they boast a better squad currently and have strengthened it with the acquisitions of Irishmen Sean St Ledger and Caleb Folan. This should be a close game and I really think both of these sides will be in the Premier League next year with their current form but current form also just favours Middlesbrough so I expect them to make the home advantage count and inflict West Bromwich Albion's first defeat of the season with inviting odds of 6/5.

Millwall vs Huddersfield Town - away win at 7/5. With no wins in four games, Millwall look to be at rock-bottom mentally and need to pick themselves up quickly if they're to have any chance of making themselves a force again. They've lost their last two games consecutively but they're not being battered. In fact, it's quite the reverse but they simply cannot score! Unfortunately for them, they're hosting a massively in-form Huddersfield Town that know exactly how to score as they've managed it seventeen times in seven games, which is nearly 2.5 goals per game, well above anyone else's goalscoring tally in the division. Three wins in their past five games and just one defeat says that Huddersfield Town have the form and ability to beat Millwall currently so the away win at 7/5 looks good to me.

Norwich City vs Charlton Athletic - away win at 6/4. Despite a surprising blip at home to Southampton, I fully expect Charlton Athletic to make light work of a mediocre Norwich City today. The hosts may have a new manager that is doing good work behind the scenes but their current form shows no wins in their past two games, including a poor draw at home to out-of-sorts Walsall. They suffered a mid-week defeat by high-flying Milton Keynes Dons despite having taken the lead and look destined for yet another tough clash today, this time with Charlton Athletic. Visitors Charlton Athletic will be keen to get back on track and I can't see them failing to do so today against a side that are nowhere near as good as they are and don't have any kind of momentum to oppose them. Therefore, the away win at 6/4 looks good to me.

Wycombe Wanderers vs Milton Keynes Dons - away win at 21/20. Visitors Milton Keynes Dons are unbeaten on the road this season from three games and have conceded just once in those three games. They've won four of their last five games and are currently in great shape to beat just about anyone! Happily for them, they're facing arguably the worst side in the division currently - Wycombe Wanderers. Newly-promoted Wycombe Wanderers are finding life in League One very tough indeed with just one win in their past five games and a virtually permanent place in the relegation zone. They're conceding far too many goals and this is something that will play into low-scoring Milton Keynes Dons' hands perfectly as they like their low-scoring victories in a very efficient manner. Basically, these two sides are polar opposites and I expect that to show by the final whistle today with an away win at 21/20.

Crewe Alexandra vs Aldershot Town - home win at 4/5. Crewe Alexandra are beginning to show that they really are a League One side playing in League Two after a shaky start. They've won three from their last five games albeit with very little style! Despite Aldershot Town's lofty perch, they're not nearly as good as Crewe Alexandra, which immediately sets the precedent as to why I think this game will be a home win. However, the most overwhelming fact that I can give you to support my call is the fact that Aldershot Town are really poor travellers. They've already lost two from their three away games this season and managed to lose more away games last season than any other side in the division. If you add the above information together, you have a home win at 4/5 without too much fuss and most likely a rather droll encounter!

Darlington vs Bournemouth - away win at 5/6. It's a shame to see a good side like Darlington playing so badly but football doesn't have much room for compassion, only success. The hosts haven't won any games out of seven attempts so far this season and that looks unlikely to change as they host high-flying Bournemouth. The visitors are currently top of the league and deservedly so after some very impressive displays and a form guide that shows six wins from seven games. Bournemouth are far from prolific but a woeful Darlington side that have scored just three goals in seven games shouldn't be able to test them on that front and draw more goals out from the south coast side. Bournemouth's main credential is that they rarely concede and given that the hosts can't score and momentum favours the visitors, an away win looks clear as daylight to me at 5/6.

Morecambe vs Notts County - away win at 5/6. I'm a little dubious with backing moneybags Notts County are some recently unnerving displays but I'm taking them today because the hosts are an extremely poor opponent. True, they've only lost two games from seven, but they're drawn five and won zero. Morecambe are coping well with the scoring goals side of things - it's just the "don't concede more goals than you've scored" side that they have to work on. Currently, Morecambe have conceded more goals in this division than anyone else and given that Notts County have scored more goals than anyone else in this campaign and also have a better squad, an away win looks relatively imminent at 5/6.

Grenoble Foot vs Stade Rennais - away win at evens. I think I'm becoming a secret fan of Stade Rennais but I genuinely do enjoy their football and I think you'll see a sharp rise from them from now on after they got a win under their belt last match. They're unbeaten so far this season and travel to Grenoble Foot, a side that knows all too well about defeat having lost all five of their games so far, scoring a miserly two goals in the process. They're showing clear relegation form and without major changes, I can't see them staying in Ligue 1 this year. Stade Rennais have the style and attacking potency to potentially do an awful lot of damage to little Grenoble Foot and I expect to see at least some of this damage today. Although today's visitors haven't won away from home in two attempts this season, you still have to sit back in amazement at the fact that the bookies have given evens on the away win here for a side that are clearly better due to the quality available to them and when considering the momentum of Stade Rennais also. This is one of the best bets today, in my opinion, and it only just missed out on being my featured game of the day!

SSC Napoli vs Udinese - over 2.5 goals at 4/5. There's no great secret here. Both of these two sides are expected to do well this year and typically neither of them currently are. However, that doesn't change the fact that both sides have a wealth of attacking options available to them with SSC Napoli having scored in every competitive game they've played so far and Udinese averaging over two goals per game currently. As you'd expect from both sides' league placing, the number of goals conceded by each side is large, some of the largest in Serie A, in fact. Both of these two sides need three points to try and build some momentum and both sides score and concede freely so taking over 2.5 goals at 4/5 looks a bargain.

Yokohama F Marinos vs Kashima Antlers - home win at 5/2. Out of all the leagues I cover, the J-League is the one that has the most baffling odds sometimes. Yokohama F Marinos are a big Japanese side with a big history. They're not doing particularly well this season but they're still a difficult side, particularly at home. Despite just one win in their past five games, Yokohama F Marinos are amongst the biggest goalscorers at home in the whole of the J-League. They've won two from their last three home games, drawing the other. Visitors Kashima Antlers are top of the league but their form is very hazy and doesn't really give them any consistency. As a matter of fact, Kashima Antlers have lost all three of their last three away games. All of this information combined suddenly makes the home win at 5/2 look very interesting indeed, does it not?

Ruch Chorzow vs Cracovia Krakow - home win at 10/11. Taking Ruch Chorzow to win at home at 10/11 could well be one of the best bets of the day. The hosts play good football and have an impressive 100% home record - three wins from three games, five goals scored and none conceded. Visitors Cracovia Krakow are finding Ekstraklasa life very hard and sit just outside the drop zone currently. Although Cracovia Krakow haven't lost in their last four games, the fact remains that they've scored just one away goal this season and that doesn't look likely to change against an impenetrable Ruch Chorzow defence, particularly with the hosts boasting four wins from their past five games. Everything is pointing to a home win here and I'm more than happy to take it with the above in mind at 10/11.

Saturn Moscow Oblast vs Spartak Moscow - away win at 10/11. Despite a couple of shaky displays against Rubin Kazan and Dinamo Moscow, Spartak Moscow are still a very good side that simply needs a win to get them back on track. A trip to local rivals Saturn Moscow Oblast should be a good hunting ground for them given that Saturn Moscow Oblast took a real beating off reigning champions Rubin Kazan last match, a result that will have really knocked the wind out of them. Although Saturn Moscow Oblast have a good home record, a large number of those games were against sides either not as good as them or on a par with them. Today they face a Spartak Moscow side that are better than them and I expect it to show today as I cannot fathom Valery Karpin allowing his side to go without a win for three games consecutively after such an impressive campaign with the title chase still wide open. I expect a rather open game today as the hosts are hunting a Europa League place but ultimately I think there's value in the away win at 11/10.

Rostov-na-Donu vs Kuban Krasnodor - home win at 4/5. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that this will be the most boring game of the day. Neither of these two sides can score goals for shit so boring might not even be the word. However, Kuban Krasnodor boast the worst away record in the division with nine defeats from eleven games, drawing the other two. They average conceding over two goals per game away from home and average scoring each time there's a full moon! Rostov-na-Donu fair a little better than today's visitors. Although they don't score many at home (not even one per game on average!), nobody has conceded less goals than Rostov-na-Donu at home this season. Neither side has any consistency to speak of  but the above information on home and away form leaves me in little doubt that this will be anything but a home win at 4/5.

Lokomotiv Moscow vs FK Moscow - home win at evens. Yury Semin sure has got Lokomotiv Moscow doing damage like they used to some time ago! I don't know how he's done it, to be honest, but he's doing it very bloody well! In fact, he's done it well enough to be able to actually label Lokomotiv Moscow as title challengers, currently! They've won four of their last five games, drawing the other. They're a more prolific than efficient side, which is a trait that Semin brings to most (if not all) of the clubs he manages. They're the only side in the Russian Premier League to remain unbeaten at home in this campaign and are one of the biggest goalscorers at home, as well as boasting seven wins from eleven home games. Despite an impressive start to their season, FK Moscow are finally beginning to show that they're actually pretty average at best. It was only a matter of time before their bubble burst but now it has, they could have serious problems, particularly against a very potent Lokomotiv Moscow side. The visitors have won just once in their last five games, losing three times in the process. That kind of form won't keep them anywhere but on the road down the table whereas their hosts today are on their way up. There's a mismatch of quality, momentum and form here today so the home win looks a real steal at evens.

Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid - over 3.5 goals at evens. I don't think I need to explain this one, surely? Anyone who knows anything about football knows that these two sides go at it like hammer and tongs each time they meet! Defence ceases to exist and this is backed up by the fact that four out of the past five games between these two sides has resulted in over 3.5 goals. An in-form Barcelona are taking on a disrupted Atletico Madrid so the goals may be a little one-sided but I thoroughly expect success with this bet.

Cordoba vs Celta de Vigo - home win at 6/5. Despite fairly impassive form from both sides so far this season, Celta de Vigo suffered transfer-wise in summer, particularly with the loss of striker Kamel Ghilas to English Premier League side Hull City. The visitors haven't won a game yet this season and appear destined for a long haul this year. The hosts are in a similar position but have at least won a game this season, which was a home win, unsurpisingly. Why am I making a call on such a tight game then, you ask? Well, there's not too much between these two sides but one undeniable fact that has swayed me; Cordoba were one of the best home sides in the Segunda Liga last season and will seek to do the exact same this year. Celta de Vigo were one of the worst away sides last year and appear destined to be following the same pattern. It's all I have to go off but at 6/5, it's certainly worth a punt.

Rayo Vallecano de Madrid vs Real Union Club de Irun - home win at 3/4. Despite a mixed start to the campaign for Rayo Vallecano de Madrid, you have to fancy them to overcome newly-promoted Basque club Real Union Club de Irun. The visitors have only managed to score once in their first three games and could well be relegated this season if they don't start improving their performances and goalscoring tendancies. The hosts played well last year and still have a good squad. Is it good enough to take them to the Primera Liga? Possibly, but we'll see where they are at Christmas. In the meantime, they're playing a side with half the ability of them and on their own ground. In my eyes, 3/4 on a home win is a no-brainer.

Dnipro Dnepropetrovsk vs Karpaty Lviv - lay Dnipro Dnepropetrovsk at 13/10. This is a very risky call but I tend to find that bookies overrate Dnipro Dnepropetrovsk far too much when you consider how often they don't manage to win at home when the bookies expect them to. Don't get me wrong, they rarely lose at home, but they just don't win as often as they should, which is largely attributed to the fact that they don't like scoring goals. Today they host a Karpaty Lviv side that have impressed me this year with some good displays. They've got a good squad and taking on a Dnipro Dnepropetrovsk side that aren't firing on all cylinders yet so early in the season makes me think that the visitors might just be able to steal a result today, particularly as they've only been beaten once in their last five games. As I said, this is a risky call but I can see value in laying Dnipro Dnepropetrovsk at 13/10.

Villarreal II vs Hercules Alicante

Today's featured game is in the Spanish Segunda Liga and features newly-promoted Villarreal II and title hopefuls Hercules Alicante. The hosts have made the kind of start to this season that I expected i.e. poor. They've played two games, won neither and conceded too many goals. I feel this sets the precedent for Villarreal II's season quite well, really. They're not good enough to be in this division and I don't expect them to be in it next year. Visitors Hercules Alicante may not be in it either but for other reasons - they've got their eyes set on promotion. After being so close last year, Hercules Alicante appear to have carried their momentum over from that season to this one. An impresisve 2-1 victory over Real Betis Balompie last match gives them any additional bonus they need to overcome a lowly Villarreal II tonight, not that needed any anyway! The visitors are simply too good and odds of 5/4 astound me, frankly - take them whilst you still can!

Saturday's Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Villarreal II vs Hercules Alicante - away win at 5/4 - see introduction for full details.

Chacarita Juniors vs Rosario Central - away win at 6/5. After yet another victory mid-week, clubs are beginning to take Rosario Central a bit more seriously as they now boast three wins from three games. Today their hosts are newly-promoted Chacarita Juniors, who are playing like a newly-promoted side is generally expected to play - badly and with few points. In this instance, however, Chacarita Juniors have zero points from three games having tasted defeat three times. As irony would have it, Rosario Central were in a similar position in the not-too-distant past but time makes fools of us all! These two sides are polar opposites today and I think an away win is on the cards at 6/5.

Velez Sarsfeld vs San Lorenzo de Almagro - home win at 10/11. As expected, Velez Sarsfeld are making a dominating start to their campaign. They're currently first in the league with three wins from three games and just a solitary goal conceded. They look the side to beat this year as I thought they might and I don't think rivals San Lorenzo de Almagro have enough to compete with them today. The visitors are unbeaten so far in this campaign although that's largely due to a late goal by Alejandro Goméz in the away game with Godoy Cruz de Mendoza. Frankly, San Lorenzo de Almagro not only lack the quality but also the performance to match Velez Sarsfeld today and I thoroughly expect it to show with a home win at 10/11.

Wacker Innsbruck vs Admira Wacker - home win at 6/5. There's not a great deal between these two outfits but what does stand out is that Wacker Innsbruck are currently the best home side in the division. They've won three times and drawn once, conceding just one goal in the process but scoring nine. Visitors Admira Wacker have a decent away record, as it happens, having been beaten just once on the road and winning twice. Although form isn't my foundation here, it is worth pointing out that Admira Wacker haven't won in three games, losing two of their last three. Lastly, head-to-heads show that Wacker Innsbruck not only managed to win this fixture last season but haven't lost this fixture in their last three meetings. For me, there's value in the home win at 6/5.

Lokomotiva Zagreb vs Sibenik - away win at 6/4. High-flying Sibenik travel to newly-promoted Lokomotiva Zagreb with hopes of claiming a third consecutive win and what better side for them to play against? The hosts have leaked a lot of goals in the Prva Liga already this season and find themselves just outside the drop zone currently. Sibenik aren't the best side in Croatia by some distance but they've got more than enough in their arsenal to overcome a weaker opponent in Lokomotiva Zagreb and 6/4 is a good price to see it happen at.

Rijeka vs Karlovac - home win at 4/5. Unexpectedly, Karlovac have entered the Prva Liga with a real bang and currently find themselves in second place in the table behind the usual leaders Dinamo Zagreb. The visitors today are unbeaten in all competitions currently with their main strength being that sides find it hard to score against them. However, their fixtures tell me they've not had a real test yet, something they're guarenteed to get today at Rijeka. The hosts have been formidable on their own ground for some years now with a lot of clubs fearing to come here. Rijeka have continued to build upon their fortress' reputation by winning all three of their home games this season, including an impressive win over Hajduk Split. The hosts are well-placed to deal a considerable blow to little Karlovac and I expect to see it happen today. 4/5 are good odds so take them whilst you can!

Sparta Prague vs Jablonec - lay Sparta Prague at 5/4. This is a bold call but I'm intrigued by it. Sparta Prague are beginning to prove on a regular basis that they're unable to score more than a goal a game. For a title contender, this is obviously a considerable drawback. Sparta Prague can consider themselves extremely fortunate that none of their rivals are putting in their best performances yet or Sparta Prague might just find themselves a good distance behind the leaders. Jablonec have played very well this season and currently sit atop the Gambrinus Liga unbeaten with four wins from six games. They've put in some very good performances and justly claimed some good results from it. Jablonec have scored in every away game this season, they did it here last year and have scored against Sparta Prague in each of their last two meetings. Since then, Sparta Prague have become weaker, in my opinion, and Jablonec are more than capable of obtaining at least a draw here so laying Sparta Prague at 5/4 looks a potentially really good bet.

Derby County vs Sheffield United - away win at 13/8. This is a bit of a no-brainer with the proviso that Sheffield United turn up. Any side that can concede three goals to Nottingham Forest cannot defend - it's that simple. This is the kind of side Sheffield United have been waiting to play against because they're struggling to score goals. The hosts aren't in the best of form and the visitors might be unbeaten but they've drawn more than they've won. They'll be keen to get three poinst today and I think they've got more than enough firepower to see it happen. 13/8 on the away win looks a good bet for me.

Preston North End vs Swansea City - home win at 5/6. Preston North End are finally rediscovering their good performances after a shaky start and have the perfect game with which to increase their run of wins to three in their last four games. The hosts are still unbeaten this season and a depleted Swansea City squad are unlikely to break that particular statistic. With just one win in five games, the Welsh visitors will be lucky to leave Deepdale with anything at all. The hosts have everything they need to win this game so I'd take 5/6 on the home win whilst you still can.

Queens Park Rangers vs Peterborough United - home win at 5/6. Although it's not identical, this game is very similar to the one above in my eyes. Queens Park Rangers have yet to consistently deliver this season but have the opportune moment to do so against Championship rubbing rags Peterborough United. The hosts have the ability to win this game with ease and a win last match has given them that extra momentum they maybe just needed to kickstart their campaign. Peterborough United have been unlucky in some of their games so far this season but the fact remains that after five games they're still yet to claim three points. I can't see that changing here today so a home win looks favourable at 5/6 as long as Queens Park Rangers take the chances that they get.

West Bromwich Albion vs Plymouth Argyle - home win with -1.75 handicap at 6/5. This is a definite no-brainer! The league table tells you all you need to know here!

Bristol Rovers vs Oldham Athletic - home win at 10/11. High-flying Bristol Rovers entertain a demoralised and under-performing Oldham Athletic side at what can only be classed as a "perfect time". Why? Well, Oldham Athletic are actually a pretty damn good side - they're just hiding it well at the moment. In fact, I think they made their ability invisible because they managed to lose 3-0 at home to Hartlepool United last game, which is frankly farcical. Oldham Athletic haven't won in their last four games now, losing and drawing twice. The hosts are virtually untouchable currently with four wins in six games and look set to continue this characteristic against a brusied, battered and bewildered Oldham Athletic at odds of 10/11.

Charlton Athletic vs Southampton - home win with -1.75 handicap at 15/8. Much akin to West Bromwich Albion vs Plymouth Argyle, this is a no-brainer - the league table shows you all you need to know!

Nomme Kalju vs Flora Tallinn  - away win at 11/10. I don't know why the bookmakers keep underestimating Flora Tallinn but it's quite pleasing, really! Admittedly, they've not had the most productive of seasons and are languishing a couple of places below where they expect to be at this stage of the Meistriliiga season but nonetheless they're a good side in good form. Frankly, they're better than Nomme Kalju in whichever light you look at it as they've proven for a long time now - well, in terms of league placing and games on this ground, anyway! Nomme Kalju are something of a bogey team when this fixture is played at Flora Tallinn but in this fixture Flora Tallinn have emerged victorious for three years running now. 11/10 on an away win here is a real bargain!

Tampere United vs IFK Mariehamn - home win at 11/8. This is a dubious call but Tampere United are the best home side in the Veikkausliiga so I'm prepared to give it a shot! Seven home wins from ten games says that Tampere United are extremely well-placed to overcome their opponents today. However, IFK Mariehamn could be described as the hardest side to beat in this division being as nobody seems to be able to do it! This point is backed up by the fact that they have only lost one away game this season but have drawn a staggering seven games, winning just twice! There's no questioning the dogged tenacity of IFK Mariehamn and I expect a tight game because of it. However,Tampere United have just enough to get the job done here so odds of 11/8 do look inviting.

Girondins de Bordeaux vs Grenoble Foot - home win with -1.75 handicap at 5/6. I've been very impressed with Girondins de Bordeaux this season, moreso than I was last season, even. That coupled with the fact that they're playing the worst side in the division says this will be a convincing win - another no-brainer! Soon you won't need me anymore, eh?!

Dundalk vs Cork City - away win at 6/4. Annihlation at Derry City saw Dundalk morale drop as it's now three games without a win for today's hosts. Visitors Cork City, by contrast, have won their last two games consecutively and boast one of the best away records in the division. When you add the remaining information that Cork City are considerably better than Dundalk quality-wise, you get a pretty convincing away win. 6/4 are surprisingly good odds to see it happen at, too!

Livorno vs AC Milan - away win at 3/4. I know AC Milan were trounced 4-0 by a rampant Internazionale in the Milan derby but has that really affected the bookmakers enough to give such good odds on this game?! I can't explain it and frankly, I don't want to. I feel that if I could I might implode!! AC Milan are head and shoulders above a weak Livorno team in terms of quality and have more than enough in reserve to see this game out with three points in their back pockets. The hosts do have an intimidating atmosphere here, moreso than most sides do, but they've sold one of their best players to West Ham United and will struggle to get anything from this game. The away win at 3/4 looks an absolute steal!

Frosinone vs Padova - home win at 10/11. Frosinone have surprised me by their tremendous start to their Serie B campaign but I'm happy to ride it, particularly against newly-promoted Padova. The hosts have won three games from three, two of which were impressive away wins to recently relegated Lecce and tough home side Salernitana. Padova may be unbeaten currently but they're facing a decent side in very good form and that always spells danger in my book. 10/11 on the home win could be a very good bet here.

Kyoto Purple Sanga vs FC Tokyo - home win at 2/1. I wasn't going to bother with this bet until I saw the fantastic odds that the bookies are giving on this outcome, something I can hardly believe! Kyoto Purple Sanga are one of the best home sides in the whole of the J-League despite their deceptive league placing. Eight wins from twelve home games says that giving 2/1 on the home win could be a very big mistake for the bookies if this comes off. FC Tokyo, to their credit, are one of the better away sides in this division but three defeats in their last five games says that they're struggling to maintain that fact. Kyoto Purple Sanga's form is hit-and-miss as you'd expect from a dogged home side like they are but I still cannot fathom why they're 2/1 to win this game but rest assured I will be taking those odds!!

Kashima Antlers vs Kawasaki Frontale - home win at evens. These two sides are battling it out at the top of the J-League. Kashima Antlers are the bigger and better side whereas Kawasaki Frontale are seeking to rock the boat of their bigger and more illustrious opponents. I have to give credit to Kawasaki Frontale, however - they've certainly managed to rock the boat for a large part of the season thus far but I think today is a bridge too far for them. In my eyes, a home win here today sees the title in the hands of Kashima Antlers and what better side for them to do it against? They'll be highly motivated because Kawasaki Frontale are title rivals and confident because of their scintillating home record of nine wins from eleven games with zero defeats. As much as I respect Kawasaki Frontale, I can't see them getting anything here today against a good Kashima Antlers side so evens on the home win looks a good bet.

Indios vs Toluca - away win at 11/8. Winless Indios entertain a good Toluca side that have had some of the wind taken out of their sails lately, most notably in the 7-2 thrashing by America. However, the fact remains that Toluca are a good side and five wins from seven games proves that point. Indios still haven't managed to gain three points this season and their form suggests that this game will be little more than a walk in the park for Toluca today. 11/8 on the away win looks a good bet for those reasons.

Jagiellonia Bialystok vs Lech Poznan - home win at 17/10. This is a dubious bet but one of my favourites of the day, it has to be said! Jagiellonia Bialystok have performed admirably in the wake of their points deduction at the start of the season having already recovered the lost points. They've got some good momentum going on (despite defeat by Wisla Krakow last match) and are a well-organised side. Lech Poznan used to be an organised side too but they just don't seem to have that at the moment. I'm not sure why they're not turning up but no wins in three games (two defeats and one draw) says they're just not with it currently. The quality is still there but the organisation and momentum clearly isn't. For those reasons, I fancy Jagiellonia Bialystok to steal three points today and 17/10 is superb odds to see it happen at!

Dubnica vs MSK Zilina - away win at 11/10. Despite four points from their last six, Dubnica are still a poor side - there's just no getting away from that fact. They've won once in eight attempts and entertain an MSK Zilina side that consistently competes for the Corgon Liga title as they are this year with five wins from seven games. They've only tasted defeat once this season and I don't think little Dubnica have enough to cause them problems today. An MSK Zilina win at 11/10 looks a potential bargain, particularly with their good form against a mediocre opponent.

Espanyol vs Real Madrid - home win with +1 handicap at 7/5. This is probably my riskiest call of the day but bear with me! I tipped Espanyol to do well this season but that was before the death of key centre-back and Captain Daniel Jarque. Espanyol aren't as good without him, admittedly, but this is their first home game since his death and the players and fans alike will want to win this in his honour. Whereas I'm not saying they're capable of beating Real Madrid in the open, I do think we can beat Real Madrid by giving Espanyol +1 at 7/5. Real Madrid have some very good attackers but their defence is beyond shocking and I expect them to concede in just about every game they play in this year. The hosts still have a decent enough squad to take a draw here and that'll be enough to see us win!

Trelleborg vs Kalmar - home win at 7/4. Kalmar are struggling a little at the moment with just one win in their past four games. They've now lost the two Elms from their squad, which are both big losses, and now face the arduous task of overcoming a resilient Trelleborgs side that have won enough home games to be in the top four/five of the Allsvenskan currently. The hosts make this a real fortress for sides to come and play at so a weakened and slightly demoralised Kalmar will have a mightily tough task overcoming Trelleborgs today, something I actually think is beyond them. Taking the home win at 7/4 could turn out to be a really good bet here as the hosts have won seven from ten home games thus far in this campaign.

Le Mont vs Lugano - away win at 3/4. I'm not sure why the bookies are giving 3/4 on one of the Challenge League's promotion favourites Lugano are travelling to one of the worst sides in the division - Le Mont - who haven't won any of their last three games, losing two in those three efforts. The hosts are in the relegation zone as they've claimed just one win from six games whereas the promotion hopefuls are currently second in the Challenge League with four wins from six games. Lugano boast an astounding away record of three wins from three games, a massive fourteen goals scored and not a single goal conceded. Make no mistake, Le Mont will have their work cut out to obtain anything here so the away win looks a great bet at 3/4!
