Levski Sofia vs Dundalk

Today's featured game is the UEFA Europa League encounter in Bulgaria between Levski Sofia and Dundalk. Hosts Levski Sofia already have the advantage of being the more experienced of these two sides in European competition and it should ultimately show by the final whistle too.

Levski Sofia are one of the best sides in Bulgaria despite a shaky A PFG showing in their last campaign. Nonetheless, they're a talented side and they do boast arguably the most bizarre European form around. They've played four home games in the UEFA Europa League, all four of which were home defeats, three of which went under 2.5 goals, and all four of which Levski Sofia failed to score in. Their four away games have all gone under 2.5 goals and they've one once and lost three times. Suffice to say that they're a solid side if nothing else. They lack a sufficient level of potency to be a constant threat in European competition but they're strong defensively and thus always a good candidate for going under 2.5 goals.

Visitors Dundalk scare me a little for this bet as any side that can concede three times in twenty minutes against Luxembourgian opposition can be frail defensively. However, I'm taking comfort from the fact that they're mid-season and that they'll approach this game as underdogs, which is exactly how all Irish sides like to play. I recall Derry City making a similar trip last season to take on Levski's big local rivals CSKA Sofia with everyone saying that CSKA would destroy them but they underestimated the cult fame of the Irish tenacity! The scoreline ended 1-0 to CSKA but it took a long time until the hosts got their breakthrough. I'm expecting a similar game today although it is worth pointing out that Dundalk aren't as good as Derry were but it's also worth noting that Levski don't score as many as CSKA do.

Bluntly, this one is something of a bookies' trap. It's like they want you to think this will be a walkover whereas I believe it will be anything but. If Levski finally manage to score then they should win this one 1-0 or 2-0 against a determined but fairly talentless Dundalk side. However, I'm not even interested in backing a Levski win here against resilient opponents - I'm just surprised at how generous the odds are on going under 2.5 goals today!

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 11/10.

Thursday's Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Valletta vs Ruch Chorzow - away win at 11/20.

These odds are too long! Polish sides may not travel well but Ruch were exceptional in Kazakhstan in the last round so I'm very confident that they can do the job in Malta. The odds should be closer to 1/3 for this one as I expect Ruch to ease to victory here against an inferior and relatively impotent host.

Verdict: Ruch Chorzow to win at 11/10.

OFK Belgrade vs Torpedo Zhodino - lay OFK Belgrade at 7/4.

If this isn't drastic over-estimation of the hosts, then I don't know what is. Serbian football has stagnated over the past couple of years - even Red Star and Partizan don't boast the same threat in European competition anymore. OFK Belgrade are a defensive, low-scoring, uninteresting side and they look far too short to me here with that in mind. They're not the most experienced of sides in this competition and whereas I won't deny that they are better than their opponents today, I still don't see why they're so short. Serbian sides are famed for not scoring enough goals and whereas their opponents today follow a similar style of football, I still don't see the reasoning behind OFK Belgrade being such favourites. Torpedo aren't a particularly good side but they're tenacious and will hold onto a 0-0 here given chance and that's exactly what I think will happen. They're mid-season so do have match practice and they're facing a very similar side so expect a physical game here. However, laying the hosts today looks unbelievably generous at 7/4, as does going under 2.5 goals.

Verdict: Lay OFK Belgrade at 7/4.

Elfsborg Boras vs Iskra-Stal - under 2.5 goals at 11/10.

Moldovan sides have an unfortunate record of being very hard to beat in European football nowadays, just like their national side is starting to become. Never underestimate them or you'll get burned. Iskra-Stal are not one of the better sides in Moldova and are largely inexperienced in European competition as a result but they'll set up their defence the same way that the giants of their country too - eleven men behind the ball - which makes them hard to beat. Elfsborg are the superior side but they've yet to convince in the Allsvenskan this season on a consistent basis. They've been ferocious at home with five wins in seven games and averaging scoring nearly three goals per home game but this is a very different opponent indeed. Elfsborg are certainly good enough to win this game but it depends how long the Moldovans hang on for as to how many goals will be scored. I don't think Elfsborg will score early in the game so going under 2.5 goals at 11/10 could be a good bet here although naturally do approach with caution - If Elfsborg's application is correct then this game could end 6-0!

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 11/10.

Gorica vs Randers - away win at 21/10.

How on earth are Gorica favourites for this game?! It's either a massive market over-reaction to Randers' defeat in Luxembourg with an under-strength side (as they'd already progressed) or it's been based on their domestic displays last season. Either way, Randers most certainly are the better side here so I'm a bit baffled at the odds on show here. Gorica love to score goals, which I admire them for, but their defence is incredibly weak and should get exposed easily today. This Gorica side has somehow even managed to lose at home to Rabotnicki Skopje in the past few years in this competition so I don't have a lot of faith in them! A narrow win at home to FC Lahti of Finland last season did little to improve my confidence in them either! Gorica's tactics are not yet fit for European use and I think they're up against a side that will punish them for it. When Randers apply themselves correctly, they're one of the best sides in Denmark. They've demonstrated that already this season against a weak Luxembourgian opponent by beating them in style and resting players for the return leg. Don't underestimate Randers though - they really are a good and spirited side. They're far too long to win this game so I have to back a Randers win at very generous odds of 21/10.

Verdict: Randers to win at 21/10.

Dinamo Minsk vs Sillamae Kalev - home win with -1.75 handicap at evens.

Belarusian football is very strong at the moment and Dinamo Minsk are one of the two fore-runners of it along with reigning Vysshaya Liga champions BATE Borisov. Dinamo Minsk are playing very well this season by being clinical and keeping clean sheets. They have a good record against Baltic sides and Sillamae Kalev aren't really good enough to be in this competition. The visitors had a great campaign last year but they're not one of the top sides in Estonia for me - they're fourth at best. They like to attack and their defence is quite weak in comparison to the level of attack that they're facing today so you have to feel that the hosts have enough about them to do damage today. Dinamo Minsk need to score early in the game as they play possession football and that doesn't always bring about the most goals. However, they're facing an opponent that they can easily overwhelm given the breaks and I like the chances of them doing so, particularly with the handicap at such good odds.

Verdict: Dinamo Minsk to beat the -1.75 goal handicap at evens.

Zestaponi vs Dukla Banska Bystrica - home win at evens.

This is a dubious call but one that I like. Georgia is never an easy venue for an away side as poor Faetano of San Marino discovered last round as they were destroyed by their hosts. However, Georgian sides don't tend to score many at home so I don't usually back them. That said, Zestaponi are the exception; they love to score goals, especially at home. They're very much an attacking side and I expect them to use that advantage as well as their experience in European competition against their Slovakian opponents today. I think the two sides are quite well-matched but Banska are yet to play a competitive game this season and haven't appeared in European football for five years now. I think the visitors today may be undone by momentum, experience, and potency, although I can only emphasise caution as they're two well-matched sides, as I've stated already. Expect plenty of goals, either way!

Verdict: Zestaponi to win at evens.

Molde vs Jelgava - over 2.5 goals at 3/4.

Molde have had a terrible Eliteserien campaign this season. They've missed players, admittedly, but they're leaking goals for fun. They're by far the superior side against Jelgava but you have to feel that Jelgava can score here because Molde concede goals so easily at the moment. Molde's returning players have given me confidence in their ability to find the net so that doesn't concern me - Jelgava aren't good enough defensively to keep them out - but it's their defensive ineptitude that intrigues me here. For me, over 2.5 goals in this game at 3/4 should be a bargain as I expected it to be far shorter than that, especially given Molde's ability to concede three goals in two minutes as shown against Lillestrom domestically!

Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at 3/4.

Stabaek vs Dnepr Mogilev - over 2.5 goals at evens.

"Stabaek" and "over 2.5 goals" are two things that walk hand-in-hand everywhere. Stabaek cannot defend and love to attack. They're clinical, they've got good players and finishers, and despite the problems they do have at the moment, you just know that they're going to score goals today. Dnepr are a strong defensive unit but Stabaek have a knack of exploiting defences of this nature at least once and if Dnepr come out to play Stabaek, they'll be destroyed. That said, Stabaek cannot defence so you may see Dnepr do something relatively unthinkable in their defensive world and attack to try and sneak an away goal as I don't see Stabaek winning in Belarus in the return leg. Eitehr way, barring Dnepr having a lot of fortune against Stabaek today, this game will go over 2.5 goals. Dnepr are a side that I respect a lot but they don't have a good enough defence to keep out the likes of Stabaek.

Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at evens.

Kalmar vs Dacia Chisinau - under 2.5 goals at evens.

This preview follows a very similar vein to that of Elfsborg vs Iskra-Stal. However, for me, this one has even more chance of going under 2.5 goals. Kalmar have been fairly unpredictable domestically this season but always enjoy their under 2.5 goals games. They don't score enough but like to keep the ball so they're not an easy side to face. Dacia are one of the best three sides in Moldova and are very experienced in European football as a result. I'm 100% certain that they'll park the bus in front of the goal in this game and they're worryingly good in defence, usually. I don't see low-scoring Kalmar doing too much damage and I don't see any away goals here so we should see under 2.5 goals today.

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at evens.

Maritimo Funchal vs Sporting Fingal - under 2.5 goals at 6/5.

My first reaction to these odds was quite simply "eh?". How can a home side that barely averages scoring 1.5 goals per home game domestically, a side that has never competed in a home game in European football where more than one goal has been scored, have a game against a tenacious and defensive opponent priced at 6/5? It's absolutely mind-boggling - I've no idea where these odds come from sometimes! Maritimo are a good side and they are the better side, yes, but them scoring twice in one game is something that they seem to dislike doing! Fingal are going to come here for the draw and I don't see them having much of the ball as a result, and thus not scoring. However, they'll park the bus so this game has got under 2.5 goals all over it in my eyes - hell, I'm not even that confident that Maritimo will win the game!

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 6/5.

Siauliai vs Wisla Krakow - lay Wisla Krakow at 21/20.

Lithuanian football doesn't deserve the long odds that they keep getting in European football and for me, this is a classic example. Wisla are a very good side on their day and are giants of Polish football with lots of European experience. However, they were rather poor last season with their displays, largely due to struggling to score against stubborn defences, which is exactly what they'll face today. Siauliai are not one of the best sides in Lithuania but they know how to defend and Wisla struggle against this type of defence, generally. Siauliai are mid-season; Wisla are yet to play a competitive game. Wisla have won once in their last eight away games in European football. For me, I can't see why Wisla are so short, particularly considering their attacking problems. Laying the visitors today looks far too generous in my eyes and should be worth a punt today.

Verdict: Lay Wisla Krakow at 21/20.

Anorthosis Famagusta vs Sibenik - lay Anorthosis Famagusta at 29/20.

Anorthosis fucked me up twice last round; I hope they won't again!

Anorthosis are facing a much better side this time around though so they should struggle. They're not as good as they were and they generally don't score enough goals. Sibenik struggled against Maltese side Sliema Wanderers last round, not because of a lack of possession but because of a lack of goalscoring. Defensively, Sibenik are very, very good so don't underestimate them here. They much prefer playing as underdogs and I expect a difficult match for Anorthosis as a result. I'm concerned that Sibenik don't score enough goals, particularly having sold their best striker in summer, but I can see them holding a generally low-scoring Anorthosis side to a draw here today so why laying the hosts is so long is beyond me - Sibenik are very assured defensively as it's the strongest part of their game by some distance.

Verdict: Lay Anorthosis Famagusta at 29/20.

Levadia Tallinn vs Debreceni VSC

Today's featured game is the UEFA Champions League Qualifier in Estonia between Levadia Tallinn and Debreceni VSC. These two sides met in last year's competition with the Hungarian champions emerging triumphant on that occasion and to be honest, I expect the same outcome this time around.

Maybe I'll be proven wrong today but I don't see why the bookies have priced Debrecen so generously. They're the better side by some distance and they overcame Levadia last time around when Levadia had a stronger side than they do now! Debrecen are coming back to face Levadia again with more experience, a similar level of ability, and the determination to make the group stages of this competition again and I don't see why they can't secure that tonight with an assured display. I have a lot of respect for Levadia Tallinn and I don't underestimate the arising level of Estonian football but they have real problems scoring goals and considering that they're facing a superior side, this now becomes a very big problem indeed. Levadia are good enough to keep the scoreline low and respectable but I'll be very surprised indeed if Debrecen don't win this one through natural progression, particularly with their Hungarian Super Cup win against Fehervar last week under their belts to give them some momentum, which is very useful considering that the Soproni Liga hasn't started yet but the Meistriliiga is mid-season. Levadia won't make this game easy but the odds on the away win are far too long, in my opinion, and thus worth a punt. The only outcome I can see where Debrecen don't win this game is if it melts into a stalemate but I still think the away win is the most likely outcome here. Estonian football may be on the rise but Hungarian football is very good indeed at the moment and is only getting better!

Verdict: Debreceni VSC to win at 29/20.

Tuesday's Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Birkirkara vs MSK Zilina - away win at 2/5.

These aren't particularly good odds but they should be far shorter! Zilina are experienced in Europe and a hell of a lot better than Birkirkara. Maltese football is decent at best but I think Zilina will destroy them today. Let's face it - any side that can concede three times at home to Andorran opponents has real problems, particularly considering that Birkirkara's strength in Europe tends to be defence rather than attack! I can't see the hosts doing anything here, to be honest - Zilina should run riot, even if they don't score many goals in general. For me, the odds on the away win here should be 1/4 at the longest.

Verdict: MSK Zilina to win at 2/5.

Liepajas Metalurgs vs Sparta Prague - lay Sparta Prague at 23/20.

There are some surprising odds on this one. Sparta Prague are very experienced but their side isn't as good as it used to be. Their strength in the Gambrinus Liga last season was keeping sides out rather than outscoring them. Don't get me wrong - Sparta are unquestionably the better of the two sides here today but they're definitely not worth the odds of 1/2 that they've been given. Liepajas Metalurgs aren't as strong as they used to be either, in my opinion, but no trips to the Baltic states are easy anymore so I don't know why the bookies have written them off so early. I think both sides would take a draw here pre-match and I also think that's the most likely outcome with determined hosts that are mid-season against experienced Sparta that are short on match practice. It's a dubious call, for sure, but the odds for laying the visitors here should never be as long as they are.

Verdict: Lay Sparta Prague at 23/20.

AIK Solna vs Jeunesse d'Esch - Jeunesse d'Esch to win with +1.75 goal handicap at 2/1.

Very dubious but fun call here! AIK have been shocking this season and are only now starting to turn things around gradually. Their strength was always in keeping sides out rather than scoring goals but today they're heavy favourites - too heavy, in my opinion - and are expected to score a lot of goals. The AIK side I know aren't capable of scoring lots of goals due to their football style so whereas I do think they'll win the game, I don't envision it being heavily, although the possibility is always there against Luxembourgian opponents! Jeunesse aren't a good side but they'll be determined here and determination is something that AIK have looked particularly susceptible against this season, particularly in defence, so don't be surprised if the visitors steal a goal here. Luxembourgian football isn't as bad as it was as Dudelange proved by beating Randers the other night, albeit at home. I think the visitors will cause a stir today and although I expect them to lose, I think the odds on giving them a  +1.75 goal head start are far too generous and should be given some thought, particularly as AIK aren't worth 1/20 to beat anyone in my opinion!

Verdict: Jeunesse d'Esch to win with a +1.75 goal handicap at 2/1.

Accumulator fodder:

MSK Zilina, Salzburg.

Zrinjski Mostar vs Tobol Kostanai

From today onwards, I'm going to have a few Internet connectivity issues as there's things going on in my life that require a lot of my attention, regrettably. Therefore, although I can post updates for most days, chances are that I can't respond to queries on the comments section of each update. I've therefore left my esteemed colleague Marz in charge of responding to queries on the site until I'm back in the saddle. Alternatively, you can email me at thefootytipster@gmail.com and I'll get back to you when I can. Chances are that this will only be a problem for a short while but we'll see.

Today's featured game is the UEFA Europa League second leg between Zrinjski Mostar and Tobol Kostanai in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Both sides are quite experiecing in European football but Zrinjski bring the advantage to this game having achieved an invaluable 2-1 victory in Kazakhstan in the first leg, which naturally means that the visitors need to attack in this game, possibly leaving them exposed at the back.

Bosnia-Herzegovina is not amongst the atypical list of "places to go before you die" because it's a rather hostile environment. However, that environment helps create a strong level of support for the home side in games like this, which is precisely why only a very well-organised Sporting Braga have won here in the last three years of European football. Bosnian sides are traditionally very strong at home but poor away, which is why I was surprised that Zrinjski won at Tobol in the first round despite their quality advantange. Zrinjski have won at least 70% of their home games domestically for six consecutive seasons, which should tell you that they're damn strong at home. They've worked their way into being one of the top dogs in Bosnia through constant effort and consistency and they're now a side that commands respect in their own league. They're no world-beaters but underestimating them at home is a foolish thing to do at the best of times. The hosts overcame Slovan Bratislava of Slovakia here last season without conceding so they're no strangers to facing tricky opponents.

Visitors Tobol Kostanai have taken great strides on the European stage over the past few years and are still yet to establish themselves as a threat, realistically. They're a tough opponent to face in Kazakhstan as both Galatasaray of Turkey and Austria Vienna of Austria have discovered over the past two years. However, it's worth noting that the Kazakh visitors have lost every away game that they've ever played in European football, a record stretching back to 2006, losing to Basel, Groclin, Austria Vienna, and Galatasaray and respectively having scored just once during all four away games. Kazakh sides don't have the experience or ability to take on the difficult away games and the trip to Mostar is most certainly a difficult trip. Look at the experience of Tobol outside of Kazakhstan - only five of their players aren't from Kazakhstan! There's very little experience there, although I'm mildly amused to see that this is where ex-Dinamo Minsk reject Dmitry Parkhachev ended up - yet another striker of their academy that had pace but nothing else!

Either way here - you have to favour the hosts. With the first leg advantage under their belts, I have to favour Zrinjski to finish the game off today on familiar territory with a poor travelling side that has to attack them today at generous odds of 21/20.

Verdict: Zrinjski Mostar to win at 21/20.

Thursday's Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Banants Yerevan vs Anorthosis Famagusta - lay Anorthosis Famagusta at 23/20.

I'll admit to underestimating the Cypriot side in their opening game of this tournament. I didn't think they were as efficient as they were so fair play to them. However, as a result, their 3-0 win means that this game is fairly redundant for them so I can't see them going all out to win this one. Anorthosis' most redeeming feature is keeping opponents out, which is why the first leg result surprised me so much. Anorthosis have won just once in their last seven away games in European football and that win was at Kaerjeng in Luxembourg - not the most flattering of records, I'm sure you'll agree. They've got a solid side but they've no reason to win this game today so why they're at such short odds is beyond me. Banants aren't a great side but they're experienced in European football and should be able to grind out at least a draw in this game to earn themselves some respect against a low-scoring but superior opponent. Although this selection is far from a definite win, the odds still make it worthy of a punt.

Verdict: Lay Anorthosis Famagusta at 23/20.

Sliema Wanderers vs Sibenik - under 2.5 goals at 23/20.

Nobody here is going to deny that Sibenik are a better team than Sliema Wanderers but to suggest that Sibenik have earned odds of 1/3 is ludicrous. They've done nothing to earn those odds, in my eyes.

As one of our Croatian friends pointed out last week - Sibenik have sold their best striker and couldn't break the resilience of Sliema in Croatia - why would they be able to do it away from home? I'm not confident enough in Sliema's ability to lay the visitors, although they odds make it look tempting! Chances are that Sibenik can steal a goal here but I'd be surprised to see them score more than two goals here. Sliema are solid defensively and experienced in Europe so they'll be well-prepared for this game. They're not a particularly good side but taking Sibenik to extra time and penalties would be the equivilant of winning the trophy for them so don't write off the hosts here.

I'm anticipating another droll encounter with few goals between these two defensive sides. I don't really care who wins as there's no value either way here, barring Sliema +2.75 on the handicap perhaps, but the odds are pretty poor. However, yet again, I really like the look of under 2.5 goals for obvious reasons so that's my tip for this game today.

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 23/20.

Skonto Riga vs Portadown - lay Skonto Riga at 13/5.

How on earth are Skonto Riga 2/9 to win this game?! This smarts of yet another bookie trap to me! Sure, they're from another country that most people can't find on a map but that doesn't make them a better football side. I saw a lot of people backing Skonto away at Portadown last match and I just wondered why - nothing supported that bet, in my humble opinion, and little does tonight. I'll accept that Skonto are marginally the better side and have plenty of European experience but there's very little difference between this league and the Northern Irish league, I assure you! One thing that I always find is massively overlooked in European competition is the tenacity of both Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland sides. I cannot put my finger on just why it is but those side are nearly impossible to beat! Derry City showed us the same thing last season by drawing here in Riga with Skonto and beating them at home, thus eliminating the Latvians. Portadown aren't as good as Derry were back then and they're new to the competition, admittedly, but why on earth Skonto are such heavy favourites is absolutely beyond me. They've not won in seven European games consecutively despite facing Derry City, Dinamo Minsk, and Molde - not the most formidable list of opponents, I'm sure you'll agree. The last side Skonto beat in Europe was Jeunesse d'Esch of Luxembourg so if you want to back Skonto at shocking odds of 2/9 then be my guest. Who knows - maybe they'll do you proud! My money is on laying the hosts today, however, because there's more value in it by some distance as the tenacity of all Irish sides in Europe has been very visible indeed in Europe for some years now.

Verdict: Lay Skonto Riga at 13/5.

Gyori ETO FC vs FC Nitra - home win at 3/4.

It's interesting to see that the bookies have now changed their minds about FC Nitra being the better of these two sides having seen their opening game in European football end in a fortunate 2-2 draw against Gyor in the first leg. Gyor are really worthy of shorter odds here so I'm happy to take them at 3/4. Unlike Nitra, Gyor have experience in European football and made a good account of themselves during their last foray into Europe. Gyor are a traditionally strong home side domestically and will look to take that form into Europe. Gyor have actually gone unbeaten in two out of their last three Soproni Liga campaigns at home so don't underestimate them here. Indeed, they've lost three games per two of their last four seasons at home and finished mid-table and just above the relegation zone in those two seasons respectively with their home form being their only saviour. They don't score that many at home but they're so solid defensively that they don't need to. You're a braver man than I am if you go against the Hungarian hosts today, particularly with former Spartak Moscow striker Tarmo Kink in such delightful form at the moment!

Visitors Nitra don't travel too well domestically as it is so why they'd start travelling well during their maiden voyage into European football is beyond me. I admire their attacking football but European football is all about tactics and tactics is something that Nitra often lack. Nitra lost just less than half of their away games in the Corgon Liga last season, which should tell you that they're not ready to be successful in Europe. It'll take time; it always does. Nitra's free-flowing attacking football suffers more than most do away from home in Slovakia, however, because their defence is somewhat inept so they end up conceding a lot and not taking as many of their chances as they should. I appreciate that this game is in Europe but you can take a lot of information from a side's domestic form and I think Nitra's is key here - they're simply not good enough.

3/4 isn't the best set of odds you'll ever see but I think they could easily have been shorter so I think it's decent value to take the home win today.

Verdict: Gyori ETO FC to win at 3/4.

Gefle vs NSI Runavik - under 2.5 goals at 31/20.

I recommended backing NSI Runavik with a +1.75 goal handicap in the first leg between these two sides and we were desperately unlucky with Gefle winning 2-0 purely due to Faroese error in what was actually a very even game. In the two games in this competition thus far between Swedish and Faroese opposition, it has become very apparent indeed that the gap is closing between Faroe Islands and the rest of Scandinavia, which is something I've highlighted for a little while now. I don't expect the likes of NSI Runavik to win this type of game, for instance, but I think they'll make life very hard for physical Gefle tonight and don't feel that there's any value in backing the hosts as a result. Gefle are a resolute and well-organised side but don't score many goals as a rule. I expect them to approach this game with their typical defensive line-up and perhaps steal a goal or two to put the tie to bed. I'm a tad concerned because NSI Runavik are scoring goals for fun in the Meistaradeildin at the moment and a single goal for the visitors here today would rupture this bet horribly. However, I think it's worthwhile to take under 2.5 goals as Gefle have held strong against better attacks than that of minnows NSI Runavik so logically, taking under 2.5 goals in this game would be the best approach in my opinion, particularly at such generous odds.

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 31/20.

Port Talbot Town vs TPS Turku - away win at 4/5.

I can't write much here other than "quality difference". A fairly impotent TPS Turku rammed three goals past Port Talbot Town in the first leg of this encounter and although they suffered a couple of injuries in that game and have faced Veikkausliiga giants HJK Helsinki since then, you still have to favour the visitors. Welsh football has progressed slightly, in my opinion, but Port Talbot Town are not one of the sides that I rate as the better sides in the Welsh Premier League. I recall Bangor City facing FC Honka Espoo last season and being completely outplayed in both legs with the 3-0 aggregate scoreline drastically flattering the Welsh side. I expect something similar today. Even though TPS Turku don't need to do anything here, Port Talbot do and the experience of TPS Turku will be pivotal here as a result. I expect Port Talbot to attack to try and build on their single away goal but to get caught out often by an able TPS Turku. The odds should really be closer to 8/13 and wheras I appreciate the risk factor involved with TPS winning this game with no real reason to do so, I feel the odds are worthwhile due to the severe gap in quality between the two sides.

Verdict: TPS Turku to win at 4/5.

Glentoran vs KR Rekyjavik - away win at 6/4.

This bet follows the same route as my initial bet did a week ago where KR Reykjavik comfortably won 3-0. Glentoran's problems are still very much apparent (to my knowledge) with their manager having left, their best player having moved on, and some absences with injuries/holidays. Even with some of those issues resolved, Glentoran still cannot possibly hope to upset the balance here with such a lot going against them. They're a good side and as I mentioned earlier in another preview - never underestimate the tenacity of any Irish side. However, the fact is that they have to leave the comforts of their defence to attack their superior Icelandic opponents today and that could prove to be disastrous for the hosts. KR exploited Glentoran easily in the first leg with their towering strikers and comfortable passing and I expect more of the same tonight. KR may opt for a more counter-attacking style but either way, I expect them to do damage to an under-strength and out-of-practice Glentoran side today. KR Reykjavik love playing in Europe - they tend to have good results on a consistent basis as both Larissa of Greece and Basel of Switzerland can testify from last year's campaign alone. KR are having a mixed Urvasldeild campaign but they're still good enough to outclass their opponents today with so much going against Glentoran. There's obviously a risk factor here because KR Reykjavik don't have to do anything here but the opportunity to back them at such generous odds of 6/4 to beat an inferior side in any circumstance is certainly worthy of a punt.

Verdict: KR Reykjavik to win at 6/4.
