Today's featured game is the match between Udinese and Fiorentina in the Italian Serie A. Hosts Udinese had been tipped pre-season for a very good campaign but have generally failed to deliver consistently thus far, hence their unconvincing league placing. However, their actual potential has begun to surface lately with a two-match unbeaten run and a morale-boosting victory against Serie A giants AS Roma. Udinese's biggest problem is that they're really poor on the road but fortunately this isn't a problem today for obvious reasons! Only Internazionale and Sampdoria have currently got a better record at home than Udinese. The hosts today have won four of their six home games, drawing once and losing once along the way. Today they host a Fiorentina side that have started to look increasingly stretched of late with just one win in their last five Serie A games. A mid-week clash didn't assist matters either with talismanic striker Adrian Mutu obtaining an injury during this game and thus missing the match today. With form and numbers of available players dwindling, the Viola are beginning to look rather fragile, in my humble opinion. Fiorentina have won just once in five away games this season, losing twice and drawing twice. Although Fiorentina are not a side that generally leaks goals, Udinese are a side that does enjoy scoring them, particularly at home, something which is proven by the fact that only Internazionale and Sampdoria have scored more home goals than they have. Although neither of these two sides are playing as well as they should be at the present time, there's a clear selection of a home win for today's game in my opinion due to the above information. Frankly, 7/5 on the home win looks a real bargain today for me!
Sunday's Picks
My tips:
As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:
Udinese vs Fiorentina - home win at 7/5 - see introduction for full details.
San Lorenzo de Almagro vs Banfield - home win at evens. This should be a fantastic game between two of the most in-form sides in Argentina currently! Both sides have won three of their last five games and occupy third and first place respectively in the Argentinian Primera Division. Visitors Banfield are the more surprising side in this position as they're not really good enough to be there but you can only beat what's in front of you! San Lorenzo de Almagro are currently a side I expect to be challenging for the title and they're duly delivering. The hosts have won four from six home games so far this season, drawing twice. They average nearly two goals per home game and are generally a tricky opponent. Visitors Banfield are resilient and currently efficient, although that's not always been the case. The game should be a cracker due to the contrasting styles of both sides but San Lorenzo de Almagro have enough to win this game against what can be bluntly called "lesser opponents". The visitors may be unbeaten this season but they've not convinced on the road yet with four draws from six away games, winning just twice in that run. I think a record may end today with a San Lorenzo de Almagro victory and at evens, it's very good value.
Estudiantes De La Plata vs Velez Sarsfeld - home win at evens. This is yet another fascinating clash in Argentina between two top sides, arguably the two best in Argentina currently. Both sides will be competing for the title this year and this match will go some way in indicating just which side has the ability to go all the way. In terms of quality, I personally believe there's very little between these two sides - both can match each other toe-to-toe on their day. Estudiantes De La Plata have proven that they're a very accomplished home side in this campaign, however, with four wins and one draw from their five home games. That said, Velez Sarsfeld are arguably the best away side in Argentina and have shown such a thing for at least a year now. The only thing that is really tipping the scales in the favour of Estudiantes De La Plata for me is that simple fact that Velez Sarsfeld had an extremely tiring trip to a very high altitude Ecuador to face Liga de Quito in the Copa Nissan Sudamericana, which they were knocked out of. Therefore, the visitors will not only be tired but will also be a little worse for wear mentally. In my opinion, it's worth taking the home win on the back of that at evens.
SV Ried vs Austria Karnten - home win with -1.75 handicap at 10/11. This is a complete no-brainer in my book due to the consistent quality of SV Ried at home and the woeful displays of Austria Karnten.
Racing Genk vs Anderlecht - away win at 10/11. Recent years has shown Racing Genk emerging as one of Belgium's bigger sides, although still languishing behind the old guard of Anderlecht, Club Brugge, and Standard de Liege. Racing Genk are struggled to live up to their tag this season with just four wins in thirteen games. Their good performances this season can be counted on the fingers of one hand but their potential is always there. However, their home form has to be a real worry for them as they've won just one home game out of seven so far this season, losing three times and drawing three times. This should be a more apparent problem today as they take on an in-form and superior Anderlecht side that have already won four out of six away games this season. Anderlecht have the momentum to do it as they've won three games in a row and they've got the ability so an out-of-sorts Racing Genk should be susceptible enough for Anderlecht to win this game at 10/11.
Standard de Liege vs Club Brugge - away win at draw no bet odds of 5/4. This is an incredibly bold choice given that Club Brugge almost never take anything off Standard de Liege but I've been really impressed with them this season. Club Brugge have won five consecutive games in all conditions, including a notable victory in a difficult Serbian venue against Partizan Belgrade in the UEFA Europa League. The visitors have everything going for them and have already won four out of their six away games this season, losing just once. Standard de Liege simply don't look the same side this year due to their losses and it's starting to show. More notably, the loss of midfield playmaker and captain Steven Defour due to long-term injury has really affected the potency of Standard de Liege of late and their league form has suffered because of it as they've not won in three games now. With all this in mind, the away win with draw no bet at 5/4 looks like a potential bargain today.
Aalborg BK vs FC Copenhagen - away win at 23/20. The Superligaen's oddest side today hosts the Superligaen's best side in what should be an interesting match. Aalborg BK are capable of playing very good football but appear to have decided not to for the time being with no wins in five games, a run that has seen them lose three games. I don't need to tell you all the quality difference between FC Copenhagen and the rest of the Superligaen sides but their form of late also shows them to be a real force with four wins in their past five games. FC Copenhagen have already won four of their seven away games this year and have conceded just five goals on their travels, which affirms their reputation of being hard to beat. If Aalborg BK were in form then I wouldn't touch this game with a barge pole but I'm going to take advantage of their present slump by taking FC Copenhagen to win at Aalborg BK at 23/20.
Hull City vs Stoke City - away win at 8/5. Hull City's woeful form of late continues, furthering speculation regarding Phil Brown's future at the club. Three defeats and just one victory in their last five games leaves Hull City looking increasingly likely to prove all the pre-season pundits right as they seemingly attempt to move down a division into the Championship. The fact that they've scored just eight goals in eleven games should tell you everything you need to know about their problems, particularly as no side in the Premier League has scored less goals. Visitors Stoke City are the side that Hull City should be attempting to emulate to prolong their stay in the Premier League by adopting a no-nonsense, efficient footballing manner to grind out results. Stoke City are now what I would call an established Premier League side that will give any side a good game on their day. They're hard to break down and they take their chances, particularly from set pieces. Stoke City are unbeaten in their last four games, winning two of them, and appear to have gotten even stronger since last year. No side has lost less away games than Stoke City in the Premier League this year and the fact that they won here last year should give them additional confidence in getting the job done. Stoke City are frankly a better unit than Hull City on every level and with the hosts playing some terrible football, it's hard to overlook the away win at 8/5.
West Ham United vs Everton - home win at 6/4. West Ham United's performances have finally started improving and their results are beginning to show it too. They're unbeaten in their last three games, including a home game against Arsenal, and won their last match mid-week at home to Aston Villa. I have to admire Gianfranco Zola's side because they always turn up for each game and put 110% into their football. West Ham United are a mid-table side by rights and I fully expect them to be there by the end of the season. Visitors Everton seem to be going from bad to worse with their small squad beyond stretched already with games coming out of their ears! They've not won in their last four games now, drawing three times and losing once. A mid-week battering at home by SL Benfica will have knocked the wind out of the few players they have left in their squad and this is yet another game that is coming at David Moyes far too quickly for him to prepare his squad. For me, a rejuvenated West Ham United have a great chance of winning this game today at 6/4.
Chelsea vs Manchester United - home win at 21/20. As much as I hate to say it, as a Manchester United fan, but I am very much afraid that we'll see a home win in this game. Although Manchester United have been a bogey side for Chelsea ever since Jose Mourinho moved on, Chelsea are now firing on all cylinders under Carlo Ancelotti and are scoring goals for fun. Not only will this trouble a shaky and frankly nervous Manchester United defence, but this defence is also missing the experienced Rio Ferdinand through injury. The only thing I would emphasise with this game is some caution as these two sides are the two best sides in England and either is capable of turning it on at any given time. Manchester United tend to really turn up when the odds are against them, which gives me some hope as a fan, but their dire displays in their other two games against members of the "big four" - Arsenal and Liverpool - this season really make me think that Ferguson will again select Scholes and Carrick in the middle of the park, who again will be overrun by the likes of Essien etc. Bluntly, I'm concerned about this game because I think almost everything points to a home win, which basically means 21/20 on the home win is good value, particularly as Chelsea have won every competitive home game this season.
Xanthi vs Panionios -home win at 11/10. Hosts Xanthi lie deceptively just outside of the relegation zone as they entertain Panionios. Their away form is atrocious but their home fom is superb with three wins and one draw from their four home games this season. Basically, they're a tricky side to face and Panionios will have their work cut out to steal a result here because of that. Aside from that, Panionios have lost three of their four away games this season and appear to be mirroring Xanthi's lack of ability on the road. For me, this game has a narrow home win written all over it at 11/10.
Sevilla CF vs Villarreal - lay Sevilla at 5/4. This is an extremely bold call given the impressive displays that Sevilla CF have given this season but as ever, I have my reasons. The foundation for this call is that Sevilla CF have become somewhat complacent of late. They've drawn at home against Espanyol without scoring and they drew at home to a woeful VFB Stuttgart just a few days ago. The hosts simply aren't doing what they do best at the present time despite their magnificent season thus far - it simply happens to big sides sometimes and it appears that time is now upon Sevilla CF. Unfortunately for them, visitors Villarreal have well and truly awoken with a bang and are on fire at the moment with both goalscoring and form. They've amassed a highly-impressive twelve goals in their last four competitve games, winning three games and drawing the other. They smashed four goals past Lazio mid-week are starting to look their old selves again. Basically, I think this game is going to be an awful lot closer than people think and with odds of 5/4 for laying a side that hasn't won either of their last two competitive games at home seems very good value to me - potentially!
Elche vs Real Union Club de Irun - home win at 10/11. Both of these side appear to have a long battle ahead of them to stay in the Segunda Liga this year so this kind of game will be vital for both. Elche have more experience in this division than newly-promoted Real Union Club de Irun and it's shown so far. Elche are unbeaten in their last four games, winning two of them, and have gained substantial momentum from these results. Real Union Club de Irun have already lost three of their five away games this season and enter this game with two defeats in their last three games. For me, there's clear value in the home win at 10/11 for Elche as they boast a better quality of player and better level of momentum at the present time.
Llaneros de Guanare vs Deportivo Italia - away win at 21/20. Llaneros de Guanare are having a campaign to forget as they've won just once in eleven games. They've lost a heavy six games in the process and three defeats in their last five games leaves the bottom-placed club precariously placed as other sides begin to pull away from them. Unfortunately for Llaneros de Guanare, they are today hosting one of Venezuela's "big three" - Deportivo Italia. The visitors are currently third in the Primera Division with seven wins from eleven games. They've won three of their last five games and have the best away record in the league with four wins from five away games. They've got the momentum and the quality to win this game so I fancy Deportivo Italia to overcome Llaneros de Guanare with considerable ease tonight at 21/20.

Today's featured games is the UEFA Europa League match between Rapid Vienna and Hapoel Tel-Aviv. After a humbling 5-1 defeat in Israel - Rapid's biggest European defeat in this campaign - the Austrians are keen to seek revenge and boost their chances of reaching the latter stages of the UEFA Europa League. Since that game, Rapid Vienna have gone on a rampage, winning three games out of three in the Bundesliga, scoring eight goals and conceding just once. Rapid Vienna have only conceded one goal at home in their whole European campaign this year, which was against Cyprus' APOP/Kinyras. Since then, Rapid Vienna haven't conceded in home games against Aston Villa and Hamburger SV, winning both games comfortably, which takes their tally of home wins in Europe this year to four wins from four games. Rapid Vienna are an accomplished side that are playing good football and I've developed a lot of respect for them this year as they've proven time and time again that they're a force to be reckoned with, potentially even a black horse for the winners of the UEFA Europa League. Despite the slip-up in Israel, I do rate Rapid Vienna as a much better side than Hapoel Tel-Aviv. Hapoel Tel-Aviv have been a difficult side to play against this year too, however, with Celtic and Rapid Vienna both put to the sword in Israel. Hapoel Tel-Aviv were brought down to earth with a hefty bang by Hamburger SV in Germany, however, losing 4-2 and generally looking unconvincing. Although I don't think either side are afraid to really go for this game, I do think there's a bit of a class gap in favour of the Austrian hosts, who also have the home advantage, something that has served them very well indeed in this particular European campaign. A win here will put the Austrians in a good position to achieve qualification from the group and they'll no doubt strive to do so. I think the mixture of quality and motivation will be more than enough for an impressive Rapid Vienna to win this game at 10/11.
Thursday's Picks
My tips:
As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:
Rapid Vienna vs Hapoel Tel-Aviv - home win 10/11 - see introduction for full details.
Dinamo Zagreb vs AFC Ajax Amsterdam - away win at evens. A turbulent time of late has seen Dinamo Zagreb start to falter, most notably away to bitter rivals Hajduk Split in the Prva Liga. The loss of Kovac and Mandzukic lately thinned their ranks and now they're struggling for form, something that surely isn't welcome as they host Dutch giants AFC Ajax Amsterdam. The visitors are in great form lately and look set to destroy just about any opponent they face. Their style of football is very commendable; score as many goals as possible. They've got some very talented players in their squad and they tend to show it more often than not. Although a game against Dinamo Zagreb is never easy, the way they've stumbled of late suggests that they won't be as able to trouble AFC Ajax Amsterdam as we'd generally expect. A win in this game would leave visitors AFC Ajax Amsterdam in a very commanding place in their group so they will be going for the win. As the visitors do boast the better side here, I have to feel that there's value in the away win at 10/11.
Partizan Belgrade vs Club Brugge - away win at 17/10. I think there's potentially an awful lot of value here. Serbia is a tough place to go and play football - it's very intimidating and the sides will make you work very hard for anything. However, Partizan Belgrade are looking out of their depth in this group with three defeats from three games, their most recent of which was ther 2-0 defeat at Club Brugge two weeks ago. They've not won a home game in the Europa League this year either, drawing at home to Slovakia's MSK Zilina in the UEFA Europa League Qualifiers and losing at home to French misfits Toulouse. Partizan Belgrade's defeat away to Club Brugge two weeks did much to affirm the quality gap between the two sides and the form of Club Brugge of late convinces me that they're more than capable of winning this game tonight. They've won their last five games in all competitions, bringing great momentum to this game. Previous games also mean that Club Brugge can't really afford to not win this game if they intend on qualifying for the latter stages of the UEFA Europa League. For me, the away win at 17/10 looks good value tonight.
Villarreal vs Lazio - home win with -1.75 handicap at 11/5. An interesting game between these two sides in Rome two weeks ago left Lazio with the points but with a lot of question marks all over the place. For instance, Villarreal played the better football and were generally unlucky to lose the game. Lazio took their chances well but have yet again been inconsistent since that game, much as they were before the game. However, Villarreal have gone on something of a rampage since that game, beating both opponents that they've faced in the Primera Liga as they've thrown off the shackles on their performances and returned to playing good football. Whereas it's fair to say that the opponents they overcame were average sides at best, these were sides that Villarreal would not have beaten two weeks ago. An emphatic 5-0 win at home to Tenerife for The Yellow Submarines last match sees their confidence levels go through the roof and their belief returning. A Lazio side that just can't show any kind of consistency travelling to a rejuvenated Villarreal that have a point to prove could prove very dangerous for the Italians, a danger that I don't believe Lazio can deal with. For me, the home win with -1.75 goal handicap at 11/5 could prove to be one of the bets of the day today.
Puebla vs Atlas - home win at 3/4. Hosts Puebla have entered a good period lately as they've now gone four games unbeaten. They've lost less games than anyone else in the Mexican Primera Division of late, which indicates how hard they are to beat. Atypically, Puebla prefer to draw than to win but lately they've abandoned that statistic and have won two games in a row. Visitors Atlas, however, are on the descent in terms of form. They've not won in three games, losing twice and drawing once. Atlas' biggest issue is scoring goals, something they've only managed to do ten times in fourteen games. Although there's not much quality difference between the two sides, I'm going to side with momentum and the ability to score goals and back Puebla to win at 3/4.
Hamburger SV vs Celtic - home win with -1.75 handicap at 6/5. Hosts Hamburger SV may have had some patchy domestic form of late but tonight is the perfect opportunity for them to cast aside their demons and return to winning ways. The hosts surprisingly lost at home to Borussia Moenchengladbach last match but gained a credible 3-3 draw away to rivals Schalke 04 the match before that. On Hambuger SV's visit to Celtic Park two weeks ago, they were occasionally troubled by the Scots but not nearly enough for them to be considered a threat in this game. Hamburger SV won the game 1-0 away from home with a large number of missing players, particularly in attack, but still managed a somewhat comfortable victory. There was a real class difference between the two sides and it's hard to see that not being applicable for tonight's game too. Visitors Celtic need to win this game. They've gained just one point from three games in a draw at home against Rapid Vienna. They were somewhat embarassingly beaten 2-1 by Hapoel Tel-Aviv in Israel and beaten at home by an under-strength Hamburger SV. The main pattern we're starting to see is that Scottish football simply cannot compete with the other leagues anymore. Celtic only have their tenacity left and even that is beginning to become less relevant as sides that they're playing against only have to match their tenacity for the upper hand to be given to the opposing side due to the quality difference. I honestly don't think I've seen Celtic be so little of a threat in a competition as I have this year. They look devoid of ideas and quality, and it's punished them time and time again. Hamburger SV are the best side in this group and Celtic know they have to attack them, which is beyond dangerous! Generally, I'd stay away from handicaps for games involving the feisty Celtic but I do feel that they're at the lowest point for some time. For me, the home win with -1.75 goal handicap at 6/5 looks a good bet today.

Today's featured game is the Italian Serie B match between Empoli and Ascoli. Hosts Empoli were amongst the pre-season favourites to achieve promotion to Serie A this season and have partially indicated why in their present campaign. Their away form is their biggest problem as they've failed to win in five away games, losing three times and scoring just one goal along the way. However, at home, Empoli look every bit a Serie A side in the making with four wins from four games. Nobody has scored more than them at home in Serie B and their average of nearly three goals per home game is a daunting statistic for any away side. Empoli carry a decent amount of momentum into this game as they're unbeaten in three games and they know that they've won this exact fixture for the last two seasons running now, each win by a goal margin of at least three goals. Visitors Ascoli aren't much of an away side despite their unbeaten start to this season on the road. They've currently played four away games, won once and drawn three times. Last season was a much better indication of Ascoli's actual ability on the road as just four teams lost more away games than they did and two of those sides ended up being relegated to Serie C! To put it bluntly; Ascoli aren't playing well per se - they're just making themselves hard to beat. I'll give credit where it's due but no wins in five games leaves Ascoli looking a little exposed and perhaps ready to taste their first away defeat of the season at the fortress that Empoli call Stadio Carlo Castellani. Had Ascoli not remained unbeaten on the road so far this season then I'd expect to see lower odds but as it happens, fortune appears to have favoured us by granting us odds of 4/5 so I thoroughly recommend taking them whilst they're worth it!
Saturday's Picks
My tips:
As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:
Empoli vs Ascoli - home win at 4/5 - see introduction for full details.
Racing Club Avellaneda vs Lanus - away win at 7/5. Hosts Racing Club Avellaneda are enduring a torrid time in the Primera Division at the moment. Claiming a third-bottom place in the table, Racing Club Avellaneda have shown little desire to get out of that position as they've now lost four consecutive games and yet again are leaking too many goals and not scoring enough. Currently the only winless side in the Primera Division, Racing Club Avellaneda's fortunes don't look likely to improve as they host a rejuvenated Lanus with the visitors unbeaten in their last four games. My only concern for Lanus in this game is that they've only one won of their last four unbeaten games, which tells me they're not playing their games efficiently enough, although they're a good deal better than they were at the start of the season. Still, today looks as good a day as any to amend their record. We also have to bear in mind that Lanus are one of just four sides in the Primera Division that have yet to lose a game away from home, too. With all of the above in mind, it's difficult for me to look beyond the away win for Lanus at 7/5.
Neman Grodno vs Shakhtyor Soligorsk - away win at 3/4. Despite losing their last match at home to champions BATE Borisov, Shakhtyor Soligorsk still remain in the hunt for a European place in next season's competition. They're also back to the place where they do what they do best - away from home. It's hard to look beyond a Shakhtyor Soligorsk away win not only because you know they're the better side but also because only BATE Borisov have won more (or even matched) Shakhtyor Soligorsk this season. With six wins from eleven away games, accumulating just two defeats along the way, it becomes more than apparent how potent Shakhtyor Soligorsk actually are on the road. They've won two of their last three games and today travel to a woeful Neman Grodno that have lost five from their last six games and haven't won a game in their last eight. The hosts are short on morale and are hosting a better side, which immediately places the hosts in an awkward position. With all this in mind, the away win at 3/4 starts to look very promising indeed.
Deportes Tolima vs Deportivo Pereira - home win at 10/11. It's taken far too long for Deportes Tolima to awaken in this campaign but at last they've done so with zero defeats in their last six games and by winning their last two games consecutively. The hosts are aiming to secure their place in the last eight earlier rather than later and appear in good stead to do so. Visitors Deportivo Pereira have also been playing well lately and are also unbeaten in their last four games. That said, however, they're still winless on the road this season which indicates how much they struggle away from home. Against a rejuvenated and very much in-form Deportes Tolima, it's hard to see Deportivo Pereira taking anything off their superior opponents so the home win at 10/11 looks good value to me.
Istra 1961 vs Sibenik - away win at 6/4. Crazy odds! Newly-promoted Istra 1961 are now without a win in five games and have lost three of those games too. They've managed just two wins in eleven games and find goalscoring much harder than they do conceding goals. Sibenik might not be the best of away sides on a general level but you can be forgiven for being swayed by their current excellent away form. Why? Well, nobody has won as many games on the road this season as Sibenik, and that includes giants Dinamo Zagreb. Sibenik have won four times, drawn once, and lost one in their six away games this season. Their biggest strength is not conceding many goals, which is handy when you consider that they don't appear fond of goalscoring. However, three wins in four games indicates just how in-form Sibenik currently are and that really should be enough to see the away win occur here at 6/4.
Slovacko vs Kladno - home win at 10/11. After finally managing to end their winless drought last match, Slovacko enter this game brimming with confidence, particularly as they know that they can at least match Kladno on their day and will be eyeing up three points hungrily. Don't get me wrong, I'll be surprised if Slovacko stay in the Gambrinus Liga this year but I'll be even more surprised if it's not Kladno who are going down with them. The visitors were on an excellent run but a defeat and a draw in their last two games will have affected their confidence so their heads will have dropped, which ultimately leads to poorer performances. For me, although it should be a close call, the home win at 10/11 does indicate some value in the home win.
Teplice vs Mlada Boleslav - home win at evens. League leaders Teplice today entertain Mlada Boleslav with the knowledge that nobody has scored more Gambrinus Liga goals this season than Teplice and also the fact that they're unbeaten does much to impress. Having just conceded one goal at home so far this season, Teplice have managed to win three of their five home games, drawing the other two. Four wins in their last fives games gives Teplice all the momentum they need to win this game and it looks unlikely that an out-of-form Mlada Boleslav will contribute much in the way of opposition today. Why? Well, they've won just once in their last five games, losing twice and drawing twice. They've lost three from five away games so far this season and generally look prone to not turning up. For me, taking evens on the home win bears significant value in this game today!
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Aston Villa - away win at 11/10. After an impressive 2-1 win against Chelsea, Aston Villa enter this game with renewed vigour and purpose and face local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers in a game that the away side know they need to win to maintain their momentum. There's no doubt that Aston Villa have the quality to do so, too, although their defensive mishaps need to cease as it won't be too long before errors start costing them a lot of points. Wolverhampton Wanderers have played some tenacious football this season but the fact remains that they've lost two of their last three games, drawing the other. The hosts simply don't score enough goals and against a free-flowing side like Aston Villa, this kind of record can prove fatal. For me, the away win at 11/1o has some good value in it today.
Derby County vs Queens Park Rangers - away win at 8/5. Queens Park Rangers have really caught my eye lately with three wins in their last five games. Only three sides in the Championship have scored more goals than Queens Park Rangers have so far this season as the visitors seek to finally prove that they're not just a rich club but also a talented club. Hosts Derby County get from bad to worse whenever I see them with two defeats in their last four games. The hosts are only playing well at home but I still think Queens Park Rangers simply have too much firepower and too many alternatives to not win this game so the away win at 8/5 looks good value to me.
Stade Rennais vs Montpellier HSC - home win at 4/5. Although having been poor lately, Stade Rennais will be looking to recapture some form today against high-flying Montpellier HSC. The hosts haven't won in three games, losing two games and drawing the other. That said, I still rate Stade Rennais' attack as one of the best in the country so it's only a matter of time before they nip it in the bud. Visitors Montpellier HSC are drastically over-achieving and although I respect them immensely for the tremendous form they currently boast, the fact remains that they're punching above their weight and I fully expect to see that indicated in tonight's game by a very strong Stade Rennais with a home win at 4/5.
Jaguares vs Santos Laguna - away win at 17/10. This one's a bit of a no-brainer for me, which leaves me stumped as to why the odds are so good but whatever! Visitors Santos Laguna are unbeaten in their last five games, winning four and drawing the other. They've played some great football of late and don't appear to miss Ecuadorian striker Christian Benitez one iota at the present time! Only Morelia have scored more goals than Santos Laguna in the Mexican Primera Division, which is largely why Santos Laguna are doing so well - efficient goalscoring. I rate hosts Jaguares amongst the worst sides in the Mexican Primera Division and their placing at the bottom of their group does much to further my point. Although they've won two of their last three games, there still appears to be a real quality mis-match in favour of the away side so taking a Santos Laguna win at 17/10 could prove to be a real bargain tonight.
GKS Belchatow vs Polonia Warsaw - home win at 5/6. Hosts GKS Belchatow are now unbeaten in five games, winning a highly impressive four games along the way. The hosts look to be getting back to their best form, something that I feel was produced a few seasons ago when GKS Belchatow were able to compete in the UEFA Cup. Three wins in five home games coupled with just one defeat shows that GKS Belchatow mean business so it's already more than apparent for a troubled Polonia Warsaw that they're going to have to work to get anything here. With recent trouble about unpaid player wages, Polonia Warsaw's last desire is to travel to a talented and in-form side, particularly as they boast the unenviable record of three defeats, one draw and just one win as their away record this season. To somehow make matters even worse for the visitors, they're still missing a whole host of players for this game - key defender Jodlowiec, captain Mynar (another defender), strikers Ivanovski and Nikolic, and four midfielders - Maka, Koziol, Piatek, and Sarvas. When you consider that GKS Belchatow are missing just Cetnarski for this game, you really have to favour a home win in this game for various reasons, although it is worth pointing out that Cetnarski is a key player for GKS Belchatow - I just don't feel it affects the scales too drastically with all of the above in mind. Therefore, a home win at 5/6 looks a real bargain today!
Pandurii Targu Jiu vs Unirea Urziceni - away win at 13/10. After the unflattering 4-1 away victory against Rangers in the UEFA Champions League, Unirea Urziceni return to their domestic campaign with renewed vigour and innovation. Their form lately has been patchy but they'll be keen to make amends and their momentum gives them all the requirements they need to beat a resilient but relatively average Pandurii Targu Jiu tonight. The hosts started this season well but are currently without a win in their last four games, drawing twice and losing twice. The home form of Pandurii Targu Jiu's is much like the away form of Unirea Urziceni - inconclusive! So today I'm going to side with momentum and call the away win at 13/10. I don't need to remind you all that this call does have an element of risk so do approach with caution!
Grasshoppers Zurich vs Young Boys Bern - away win at 17/20. The wonderful Young Boys Bern finally return to my radar after a couple of weeks off with the international break and Swiss Cup games. The impressive league leaders taken on fallen giants Grasshoppers Zurich away from home with the hosts on an impressive three-game unbeaten run which has seen them win twice and draw once. However, today they host a very good Young Boys Bern side indeed, something that's strongly indicated by the fact that the visitors have won ten from twelve games so far this season and average nearly three goals per game currently. Young Boys Bern have better players, are in better form, and enter this game with a lot of momentum so the away win at 17/20 looks something of a bargain today as there's a real quality mis-match on show.
Yverdon Sport vs Lugano - away win at 11/10. Five wins from five away games says that Lugano are more than determined to enter the Super League after only just missing out last year. The Challenge League leaders have won three from their last four games and can't remember what it feels like to taste defeat as it's been so long since it last occurred. With an average of over three goals per game, Lugano are the top goalscorers in the division and look a frightening opponent for any side in this division. Hosts Yverdon Sport have had a decent start to their season, particularly at home where they've won three from five games. However, two consecutive defeats will have done them damage mentally and that's no way to be entering a game with promotion favouries Lugano. For me, there's serious value in the away win at 11/10 today.
Porthmadog vs Aberyswyth Town - away win at 4/5. Hosts Porthmadog are the only side left in the Welsh Premier League that are yet to win a game. With eight games played and their last five having been lost consecutively, it's not hard to see just why they're bottom of the table without a win. They've managed to score a measly three goals in eight games, conceding over two per game on average. Everything that can go wrong is going wrong for them at the moment and I'd frankly be happy taking anyone to beat them at the moment. Visitors Aberystwyth Town have made a slow start but are finally gaining momentum with three wins in their last four games. They're currently sixth in the Premier League table and also currently boast the best away record in the division with three wins and one draw from their four away games. In fact, Aberystwyth Town are interestingly the only side left in their division yet to lose away from home. To say the visitors are in good form is an understatement as they look a potent threat to just about every side they face at the moment. For me, this is something of a no-brainer away win at 4/5.
