Today’s secondary featured game is the A PFG encounter between heavyweights Litex Lovech and nearly men Chernomorets Burgas.

Litex Lovech have been on a slippery slope since the A PFG pre-season and things don’t look too great right now as a result. Their statistics in the division this season look strong but to be honest, given that they’re a better side than 90% of sides in this division, that’s only to be expected. However, it’s their displays that concern me because they’re just not convincing at all. Old Todorov up front is a useful weapon but he doesn’t give them what Niflore did last season, for example. Yanev is still integral to their team and promising midfielder Milanov is helping Litex bear the goalscoring burden a little more easily but it cannot be ignored that Litex do struggle to score against hard opposition at the moment and their lack of a solid target man is the reason for that, in my view. Litex still look decent enough at the back but I have little faith in them breaking down tough sides this season and I think that will show today.

Chernomorets Burgas are the absolute kings of being solid in defence but useless in attack and that should be very evident today. Ex-Slavia Sofia attacker Andonov is their only real weapon in attack and although he’s decent, he’s not something I’d be concerned about in this game. They also lack a proper target man but do boast a more consistent defence than Litex, in my view, hence their last four games all going under 2.5 goals due to them keeping clean sheets. The visitors have relied a lot on Algerian midfielder Hamroun this season and that will probably be the case again today but it’s hard to penetrate Litex in Lovech, either due to their defensive solidarity or due to the supposedly bribed referees so I think the visitors are in for a tough game here.

The 1×2 market price is accurate if you look at the two sides last season but the gap is narrower this season, in my view, as Litex have weakened. You’d still have to expect them to nick it here, by foul means or by fair, but I don’t see any value in that market. Taking under 2.5 goals at odds of 4/5 is very interesting to me here though as we have two sides that defend firstly and attack later. I think we’ll see a tight game and I wouldn’t rule out a cheeky point for the visitors but my call remains under 2.5 goals.

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 4/5.

Zulte-Waregem vs Sint-Truiden – home win at 4/5.

Although statistics in the current season don’t really show it, the hosts are considerably better than their opponents and this should be the ideal platform on which to show it. Big Niger striker Maazou returns to the Zulte-Waregem team to give Kalezic options up front. Habibou hasn’t really looked the same since Hyland left for Genk pre-season but Zulte-Waregem do have a good set of attacking options and it tends to show, especially at home. Defensively – they’re not as good as they need to be, to be honest, but they should be able to outscore Sint-Truiden today. Ever since Sidibe moved on, Sint-Truiden have struggled in attack, even with the emergance of Ghoochannejhad. They especially struggle on the road because not many pitches are as compact as their beloved artificial turf at Stayen, hence them losing the vast majority of their away games this season. Subsequently, the visitors have had to play a more open style of football which just doesn’t suit them and tends to mean that they’ll be outscored, which is exactly what I expect here. Expect goals but Zulte-Waregem should score the lion’s share, one way or another.

Verdict: Zulte-Waregem to win at 4/5.

CFR Cluj vs Dinamo Bucharest – home win at 11/10.

I like Dinamo Bucharest but their number of talented players is dwindling rapidly, especially with Torje leaving for Udinese a short while ago. They still have some good players and their attacking style will always make them a threat but they’re not the force that they once were. Their defence is absolutely horrendous, easily one of the worst in Romania and it tends to show, too. Dinamo scoring is quite possible here but CFR Cluj look galvanised under Costa and should have more than enough tactical awareness, precision, and player quality to wrap this one up with the proper application. For me, there’s value in taking Cluj to win this one at 11/10 today.
