Today’s secondary featured game is the Serie A encounter in Florence between Fiorentina and Parma.
Fiorentina have looked good so far this season and is it any wonder now that wonderkid Stevan Jovetic is back from injury? Gilardino’s absence today is a problem but with Cerci and Jovetic wreaking havoc in midfield with the support of cocky Montolivo, pacey Behrami, and battling Kharja, you have to feel that there are goals in Fiorentina’s side here, even without Gilardino.
Parma look weak this year. They look lazy, too, worryingly. They lack an awful lot in front of goal and their one player who can make something happen – Giovinco – is absent today. Their defence is too easily broken through and they don’t have anywhere near enough anywhere else to impress me so 4/5 on the home win looks good to me, although it may take a while for Fiorentina to take their chances without Gilardino.

Coritiba have been fantastic so far this season at home, scoring more goals than any other Serie A side, leading them to seven wins in twelve home games. They’re still nowhere near the best side in the division but never underestimate home advantage in South America – it can even make decent sides like Coritiba into decent outfits. The pressure is off the hosts, who are well clear of the drop zone, and they’re playing impressively, not to mention without fear. Cruzeiro have zero motivation in their play right now, have been really poor lately, and have already lost seven out of twelve on the road this season. Although arguably the better side, Cruzeiro look likely to lose here.
Verdict: Coritiba to win at 5/6.

America Mineiro vs Santos - away win at 7/5.
America Mineiro have a decent home record, all things considered, but they’re facing a potent Santos side in good form, which is dangerous. We all know that Santos can’t defend for shit so both sides to score looks likely here. However, Santos are great in front of goal and the hosts may struggle to match them here. With long odds of 7/5 available on the away win here, it has to be worth a thought.

Like I said yesterday, you’re a moron if you bet heavily on the League Cup. However, Southampton are flying high with all the confidence in the world under boss Lambert, who really knows how to motivate his players. They can’t keep a clean sheet but they score goals for fun. Preston are battling hard in League One but are desperately short of ability nowadays. Presuming that Southampton field a good side here, the -1 Asian Handicap at 9/10 looks interesting tonight.

PoPa Pori vs Viikingit Helsinki - away win at 3/4
Big quality gap, big motivation gap, simply put. PoPa won a freak game last time out but it was nothing more than a freak game. Viikingit are on fire and are a considerable amount better than PoPa. The away win at 3/4 interests me here, although I wouldn’t go lower than that in Finland – we’re not talking about HJK Helsinki here, after all!

Lorient’s artificial turf has long been a stout home advantage and I expect it to continue this season. Their attack does concern me as it’s not great but it was enough to beat Saint-Etienne and should be enough to beat a mediocre Auxerre side today too, if they take their chances. For me, Lorient are a shade too long at 6/5 and thus the home win interests me here, especially given how organised the hosts always are.
