Today’s secondary featured game is the Primera Liga encounter between Almeria and Villarreal CF in Andaluscia. The hosts are already relegated and have nothing to play for here whereas visitors Villarreal CF need just a win to guarantee themselves European football next season – will they have the stamina to do it?

There’s no denying that Villarreal have looked a bit tired lately, and it’s understandable. Boss Garrido doesn’t have the experience of his predecessors when it comes to balancing a squad for the season and long-term injuries to the likes of Senna have really stretched the team, hence some bizarre displays lately. Nonetheless, there’s no doubting their attacking credentials in Rossi and Nilmar, especially with Cani back on the flank, Cazorla drifting, and Senna pulling the strings. Left-back Capdevila is back for the, which actually adds a lot to their attacking game, bizarrely. They still miss Gonzalo and Lopez at the back but in games against Almeria, it’s simply a matter of who scores the most goals – defence rarely features in games like this!

Olabe’s Almeria have nothing to prove so I suspect we’ll see their usual free-flowing approach as they seek to impress their new boss ahead of life in the Segunda Liga next season. Almeria welcome back Piatti and Jakobsen from suspension to boost their attack and defence respectively but they do miss integral attacker Crusat and that will harm their game, although deadly threesome Piatti, Uche, and Ulloa are reunited for this game. Almeria’s weakness this season has always been defending, hence conceding an average of two goals per home game and thus winning just two home games this season. Almeria have lost seven games in a row as they head into this difficult game and as they’ve failed to score in their last four in a row, they’re bound to be demoralised so I don’t rate their chances here.

Villarreal should realistically have just enough for one final push here and they’ve definitely got the firepower to nick it. They’ve not done well away from home lately but we all know their capabilities. For me, I think Villarreal is priced a little longer than they should be at 7/10 so my call is the away win here.

Team news – Almeria miss Vargas, Fernandez, Crusat, and Feghouli whereas Villarreal CF miss Gonzalo, Oliva, and Angel Lopez.

Verdict: Villarreal CF to win at 7/10.

Wednesday’s Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Wacker Innsbruck vs SV Ried – under 2.5 goals at 4/5.

Wacker Innsbruck have gone over 2.5 goals in six of their sixteen home games in the Bundesliga this season and four of those were against the “big four”. Nine out of Ried’s sixteen away games have gone under 2.5 goals. This is because neither side is an all-out-attack type of side – they’re both ruthlessly efficient and love to keep control of games and win via low-scoring margins. Defensively, Wacker Innsbruck are amongst the strongest in the Bundesliga when playing at home but as far as goalscoring goes, only the bottom two sides have scored less goals at home. Ried’s Spanish trio has improved their potency overall this season but they’re still not convincing on the road, finding it far too hard to score goals. Although this game unquestionably means a lot to Ried as they’re competing for a European place, I just don’t see how they’ll shatter this Wacker defence that has been so strong already this season. There’s no reason for the hosts to do anything but their usual cautious approach here and thus I have to take under 2.5 goals in this game as the price is way too generous to be overlooked.

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 4/5.

FC Minsk vs Gomel – home win at 6/5.

What.the.fuck?!

Ok, FC Minsk are having a hard time finding the net since Osipenko moved to Vorskla Poltava in Ukraine but those odds are a joke! FC Minsk are a top four side with a midfield containing Razin, Soro, and Voronkov! They signed Vasilyuk to replace Osipenko and atlhough he’s not as good as Osipenko, he’s a decent target man and will be a threat in due course. FC Minsk bolstered their defence as a whole with the acqusitions of ex-Dinamo Minsk duo Pavlyuchek (central defender) and Les’ko (goalkeeper), not to mention signing Osipovich from Shakhtyor Soligorsk! They also signed attacking midfielder Sashcheko from Belshina Bobriusk to improve their attacking options and are genuinely a top four side with this squad of players. They’ve not started their Vysshaya Liga campaign well, admittedly, but to price them at 6/5 here is outlandish! They’ve got some momentum leading them into this game following two impressive results, drawing 2-2 at Belshina Bobriusk before winning at Neman Grodno 0-1 so why they’re 6/5 here I’ll never know.

Gomel impressed me a lot with the manner of their promotion last season and their acquisitions pre-season but they’re not a great side. They’re a big side, they’re well-organised, and they work hard but they’re not anywhere near as good as the likes of FC Minsk, in my view. In fact, away from home, Gomel are pretty damn average, scoring twice in four away games, losing once and drawing three times along the way. Indeed, they lost 1-0 at Vitebsk last match and although on the current Vysshaya Liga table that’s not a bad result, I think it is a bad result quality-wise as Vitebsk are particularly weak following their player sales pre-season. Gomel do have some experienced Vysshaya Liga players in their squad and I’m confident they’ll beat the drop but this is the kind of away game they’ll really struggle in, in my opinion.

View Gomel as you would have viewed Belshina Bobriusk at the start of last season to understand why they’re playing as well as they are and why you can expect them to falter in a few months time. This side isn’t potent enough to win away games in the Vysshaya Liga, in my view. FC Minsk are easing into their groove and again, how they’re 6/5 here is beyond me, whether they win or not!

Verdict: FC Minsk to win at 6/5.

OGC Nice vs Arles – under 2.5 goals at 7/10.

No less than nine out of Arles’ last thirteen away games have gone under 2.5 goals so why not again today? It’s generally the likes of Lyon or Lille that destroys Arles because nobody else really has the firepower to do it and Nice certainly don’t since they sold Remy at the start of the season. Nice need the win and will probably get it but there’s no value in that selection, to me. Arles have held better side than Nice away from home lately with draws at Girondins de Bordeaux and AS Nancy-Lorraine so a 0-0 isn’t impossible here, even without the suspended Balde at the back for Arles. Arles have done so badly this year because they don’t score goals, not because everyone destroys them and I’d be amazed to see Nice destroy them, to be frank. Nice have scored more than one goal in a home game on just five occasions in Ligue 1 this season – that’s five out of seventeen home games, which explains why they average scoring a goal per home game. Don’t be fooled by the Ligue 1 table here – Arles may not score many goals at all but they’re rarely destroyed. For me, there’s far more value in under 2.5 goals at 7/10 than the home win here and to be honest, the odds are too long for this selection – it should be 6/10 or shorter in my view.

Team news – OGC Nice miss Fae whereas Arles miss Balde.

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 7/10.

Sochaux vs AS Monaco – home win at 6/5.

Sochaux have won this fixture for two seasons in a row now and I don’t see why that can’t continue this season. Sochaux have won an excellent ten out of seventeen Ligue 1 home games already this season whilst averaging scoring nearly two goals per home game and it generally takes a very good display from a side to leave here with anything but a defeat. Just take a look at who has managed to avoid defeat here already this season – Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Lille, Auxerre, Bordeaux, and Toulouse – some of the better sides in the division. Sochaux have gone unbeaten in six games, winning four times along the way, the most recent of which was a very unexpected 0-4 win at Bordeaux so morale is sky-high currently. European is still on Sochaux’s radar, faint though their hopes are, so I expect them to give Monaco a rough ride here.

Monaco aren’t a bad side, to be honest. They’re not in the heady days of Henry, Trezeguet, Legwinski, Barthez, and Djetou nowadays, for example. However, what they are is a solid defensive unit and although they’re utterly hopeless in attack without Korean attacker Park (who is a doubt today), they’re generally good at keeping sides out. With Hansson and Puygrenier united in the centre of defence, Monaco are generally impregnable in the air, especially with outstanding holding midfielder sat in front of them. However, the problem with Monaco’s man-mountain pairing in the centre of defence is that they’re both very slow and Sochaux will look to counter that. Monaco have lost at Nice lately so losing here is far from unrealistic!

The big question is do Sochaux have the pace to trouble Monaco’s defence? My answer is “yes”. They’ve got more than enough in Maiga and Brown and it really should show here. Given the immense run of form that Sochaux have currently, there has to be value in the home win at 6/5.

Team news – AS Monaco have doubts over Park.

Verdict: Sochaux to win at 6/5.

Villarreal CF vs Barcelona

For membership details go here or alternatively go here for consultancy details.

Apologies for some rather brief previews today, guys – as ever, time seems to be against me!

Today’s secondary featured game is the Spanish Primera Liga game in Valenciana between Villarreal CF and Barcelona. Both sides are notorious for playing attacking football and scoring goals, which is basically the foundation for my bet today.

Villarreal average scoring just under two goals per home game whereas Barcelona average scoring over three goals per away game. Neither side is used to defeat in their respective terms with Villarreal having lost once at El Madrigal this season and Barcelona yet to taste defeat away from home this season. However, something surely has to give way here and my guess is that it’ll be El Submarino Amarillo that suffer here.

However, with no Puyol at the back, Barcelona’s defence has been shambolic and they’ve now actually conceded for three consecutive games. Their away games don’t tend to go over 2.5 goals because sides tend to find it hard to score against them but with no Puyol in town, you have to fancy Nilmar and Rossi to do damage tonight. That said, Villarreal have defensive concerns of their own so with Villa in gleaming form of late, I fancy them to concede too.

Historically, this game has gone over 2.5 goals in five out of the last six meetings between these sides and three out of the last four games at El Madrigal between the two have gone over 2.5 goals too. Therefore, over 2.5 goals looks generously priced at 3/4 to me today.

Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at 3/4.

Saturday’s Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Olimpo vs Velez Sarsfield – home win with draw no bet at evens.

Olimpo have done surprisingly well in the current campaign with four wins, one draw, and just two defeats in seven games. Momentum is largely on their side, irrespective of a recent defeat at home against San Lorenzo de Almagro, and Olimpo are playing with great belief as a result. They’re fighting for survival whereas Velez are fighting for another Primera Division crown. However, Velez’s priority lies with their do-or-die trip to Chile next week where they face Universidad Catolica in the Copa Libertadores. Therefore, I expect Velez to either rest players here or to not play to 100% of their ability. Either way, with Olimpo scoring goals for fun at the moment (averaging two scored per game!) and playing with great belief, I think there’s value backing the home win with draw no bet cover.

Verdict: Olimpo to win with draw no bet at evens.

Dnepr Mogilev vs FC Minsk – away win  at 13/10.

I wouldn’t have liked to bet in this game at the start fo the season had Dnepr Mogilev kept the same side as last season. However, the sale of midfielder Karpovich to Vorskla Poltava, striker Turlin to Belshina, and back-up striker Lyasyuk to Gomel leaves them very short on attacking options and although they are at their strongest at home, I don’t think we’ll see them finish above mid-table this season for the above reason.

FC Minsk sold star striker Osipenko, which was a blow. However, they signed Vasilyuk to replace him and although it’s not exactly the same quality-wise, they both bring a similar approach to attacking so FC Minsk shouldn’t be terribly weakened this season. FC Minsk also signed defender Pavlyuchek to bolster their ranks, which is yet another ex-Dinamo Minsk player in their team along with the likes of playmaker Razin and winger Gigevich, for example. FC Minsk are slowly recreating the abilities of more illustrious neighbours Dinamo Minsk with their expansive 4-5-1 and dominant midfield and they look set to have the depth to ride it until the end of the Vysshaya Liga campaign, for a change. FC Minsk still have Sheryakov in attack and with experience littered throughout their team, I expect them to make a strong start to the season today.

For me, there’s value on the away win here. FC Minsk are better in defence than last season and Dnepr Mogilev lost some very important attacking players pre-season so the away win is my call here.

Verdict: FC Minsk to win at 13/10.

BATE Borisov vs Neman Grodno – under 2.5 goals at 5/6.

BATE Borisov are by far the best side in Belarus; no questions asked. Even BATE lost players over the transfer window with defender Veremko joining Sevastopol in Ukraine and Sosnovski joining Tom’ Tomsk in Russia. However, BATE compensated for that by signing Filipenko from Spartak Moscow and emerging defender Kuntsevich from Belshina so they’re as strong as ever. They also signed attacker Rudik from Naftan Novopolotsk, not to mention Serbian defender Simic from Jagodina and Rzhevksi from Krylya Sovetov Samara to further boost their defensive options and with the likes of Renan and Rodionov still in their ranks, I have no doubts that BATE will win this game today.

However, they’re facing a new-look Neman Grodno side that is currently unbeaten in four games so far in the current campaign, all of which were in the Belarusian Cup. They look especially composed at the back now that Rybak has joined from FC Minsk, which is important. They’ve signed a truckload of midfielders to help improve their creativity and stability with Strakhanovich joining from Dinamo Minsk, Sluka joining from Zalaegerszegi TE, Denisevich joining from Shakhtyor Soligorsk, and Suchkov joining from Shakhter Karagandy. They’ve also signed striker Frunza from Atyrau with the Moldovan hitman expected to increase their potency. Therefore, I think we can expect good things from Neman Grodno this season.

Grodno look good as a unit and although BATE are undoubtedly the better side here, it’s going to take time to break through the Grodno wall. It’s early season; we have to accept that BATE might not actually win the game, although I must confess that I’ll be very surprised if they don’t. However, under 2.5 goals with the above in mind looks generously priced at 5/6, especially as all four of Neman’s games this season have gone under 2.5 goals and two out of their last three visits here have too.

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 5/6.

Lokomotiv Plovdiv vs Slavia Sofia – home win at 4/5.

I’d love to substantiate it more than by saying that Loko are the better side but I simply can’t! Slavia Sofia like to upset the odds but that’s usually against their Sofia rivals. Loko have a lot of money behind them and some very good players nowadays. They should win this game fairly easily and the odds are a little too generous so my call is the home win here.

Verdict: Lokomotiv Plovdiv to win at 4/5.

Levski Sofia vs Rakovski – Levski Sofia to win both halves at 4/6.

Massive quality difference here. The odds are too short on Levski winning this game outright but for them to win both halves against a hopeless Rakovski side at 4/6 appeals to me here, especially with Dembele and Tasevski in their team. The hosts should win this easily, in my view, and should dominate throughout.

Verdict: Levski Sofia to win both halves at 4/6.

Independiente Medellin vs Atletico Nacional de Medellin – over 2.5 goals at 5/6.

The Medellin derby is one of the most hotly-contested in Colombia so expect some fireworks here. Since Independiente sold half their defence to Atletico Junior Barranquilla, they’ve looked inept at the back. During that time, Atletico Nacional have started to attack more and have even signed more attacking players ala Torres in the transfer market to bolster their attacking game. These two sides are starting to get on a par with one another again and with Independiente unable to keep a clean sheet but still posing a good threat and with Atletico bringing a good goal threat to the game too, I think we should see an over 2.5 goals game here, hard as they can be to call in Colombia at decent odds.

Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at 5/6.

Atletico Junior Barranquilla vs Real Cartagena – under 2.5 goals at 11/10.

The hosts’ form domestically this season has been atrocious and you can see why from their excellent Copa Libertadores results. Atletico keep resting players and playing very well on the continent and I expect the same again tonight. They’ve got a game in two days against Independiente de Santa Fe Bogota in the cup and then they travel to Brazil two days later to face mighty Gremio. I in no way envision the hosts fielding a full-strength side tonight so that should suit Real Cartagena as they need all the help they can get currently. Real are a semi-decent side on their day but offer little in front of goal, hence their problem. However, with Junior likely to rest attacking players and Real not scoring goals, I think under 2.5 goals is the way forward here, especially with Junior having a packed fixture scheduled ahead of them.

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 11/10.

West Bromwich Albion vs Liverpool - away win at 11/8.

Roy Hodgson faces his old team, eh? It’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top in this one! However, for me, despite being a United fan, Liverpool should win this one fairly easily. I do rate West Brom highly but Dalglish has given the Liverpool team belief and in Carroll and Suarez they have a budding partnership that can be dangerous against any side in this division so they need to be taken seriously. Their defence isn’t as solid as it needs to be with the calamitous Johnson still baffling owning the right-back role. However, West Brom’s focal point of attack – Odemwingie – either suffers with injuries or goes missing in games in the second-half of the season and that’s harming them. West Brom are not geared up to be as sound defensively as Hodgson would prefer and I think Liverpool can take advantage of that today. Gerrard is still a doubt but at 11/8, Liverpool are worth a shot here.

Team news – West Bromwich Albion miss Dorrans and have doubts over Vela whereas Liverpool miss Aurelio and Kelly whilst having doubts over Gerrard.

Verdict: Liverpool to win at 11/8.

Arsenal vs Blackburn Rovers – home win with -1.5 handicap at 4/6.

I have to fancy Arsenal here! Blackburn boss Keen is under a lot of pressure from Blackburn’s unrealistic owners and Arsenal’s injury list is lessening. Blackburn are on a torrid run because they’re conceding a lot of goals and The Emirates is not the place to go when you’re not defending well. Arsenal have Van Persie back in business, not to mention Fabregas, and although we’ve just had a week of internationals, I have to expect Arsenal to clear the -1.5 handicap at decent odds today.

Team news – Arsenal miss Vermaelen, Frimpong, Bartley, Denilson, Djourou, Fabianski, Mannone, Ramsey, and Sczcesny whereas Blackburn Rovers miss Givet and Grella whilst having doubts over Dunn and Andrews.

Verdict: Arsenal to beat the -1.5 handicap at 4/6.

BV09 Borussia Dortmund vs Hannover 96 – away win with +1.5 handicap at 4/5.

Dortmund have gotten very complacent lately with two games gone by without a win and I wonder how they’ll fare today with a rather youthful side as a result? You need experience in times like these and Dortmund don’t have much of it in their team. They’re still a superb attacking outfit although Japanese attacker Kagawa is still sorely missed. Unfortunately for the hosts, they’re facing a side that nobody wants to face when they have to attack due to their opponents’ counter-attacking strength – Hannover 96. With Abdellaoue and Ya Konan forging a lethal partnership for Hannover 96 this season, Dortmund’s usually solid defence will be put to the test today. Dortmund have conceded in both of their last two games and have only scored a single goal along the way so the alarm bells are starting to ring with Bayer 04 Leverkusen closing in behind them. Dortmund struggled to convert their chances against Mainz 05 at home last match and I expect more of the same today against a good and frankly in-form Hannover 96 side. I wouldn’t touch the 1×2 market here, although laying Dortmund does look to have some value. However, backing Hannover 96 with a +1.5 goal head start at 4/5 with Dortmund’s youngsters under a lot of pressure does seem a good bet to me today.

Team news – BV09 Borussia Dortmund miss Kagawa, Kringe, Focher, Hornschuh, Sobiech, Ginczek, Le Tallec, and Stiepermann whereas Hannover 96 miss Zieler, Avevor, Burmeister, Hofmann, Andreasen, Ernst, and Evseev.

Verdict: Hannover 96 to win with a +1.5 goal head start at 4/5.

Kaiserslautern vs Bayer 04 Leverkusen - away win at evens.

I can finally back Leverkusen with confidence again now that Swiss winger Barnetta is back! They’ve already won nine out of thirteen Bundesliga away games this season whilst averaging scoring over two goals per away game. They do miss Castro today, which denies them some width, but with Barnetta and Renato Augusto in the team, they should have enough creativity for Kiessling to thrive upon. Kaiserslautern are a decent attacking side themselves but against a mean Leverkusen defence, I have to favour the away side. Kaiserslautern are in good form so approach with caution but Leverkusen should have enough to edge this one today at decent odds.

Team news – Kaiserslautern miss Knaller, Correia, Damjanovic, Lucas, Simunek, Dzaka, Fuchs, Ilicevic, Stulin, and Zellner whereas Bayer 04 Leverkusen miss Castro, Bobel, Fernandez, Fredrich, and Kampl.

Verdict: Bayer 04 Leverkusen to win at evens.

Bayern Munich vs Borussia Moenchengladbach – both sides to score at 5/6.

Bayern Munich can’t defend. It’s as simple as that. They’ve kept two clean sheets in eleven Bundesliga games and with no Van Buyten today to partner holding midfielder Tymoschuk in the middle of defence, I cannot help but feel that an attack Gladbach side will score here, even without de Camargo. Munich should win the game pretty easily with Robben and Ribery supporting the likes of Muller and in-form Gomez but there’s no value in backing a fairly unpredictable Bayern side at ludicrous odds of 1/10! Instead, I’m opting for both sides to score here as Gladbach do attack well with Arango in midfield and although they’ll need to find another finisher with de Camargo absent, I think they’ll have ample opportunities against a weak Bayern defence today. Let’s face it – sides are always more motivated against the big teams and with relegation threatening Gladbach, they have to turn up and attack here. For me, the odds on both sides scoring is generous

Team news – Bayern Munich miss Olic, Van Buyten, and Sattelmaier whereas Borussia Moenchengladbach miss Dorda, Janeczek, Stalteri, Wissing, and de Camargo.

Verdict: Both sides to score at 5/6.

Szombathelyi Haladas vs Kecskemeti TE – home win at evens.

Haladas are in a false place in the Soproni Liga and they’ve started to show that since returning from the winter break. They play some good attacking football and all that’s been previously missing has been goalscoring. However, they’ve scored in all four Sorponi Liga games since returning from the winter break, winning twice, drawing once, and losing once along the way. Momentum is favouring the hosts and it helps that they’re playnig KTE, who simply cannot play away from home. KTE are a very potent side, one of the most potent sides in the division, in fact. However, they simply cannot defend so Haladas will have all the opportunities that they need to win this game. For me, Haladas’ price is too reflective of the current league placing rather than ability so there’s value on the home win here at 9/10.

Verdict: Szombathelyi Haladas to win at evens.

AC Milan vs Internazionale - both sides to score at 5/6.

I shouldn’t really need to put anything here, should I? It speaks for itself as AC Milan have some fantastic attackers, as does Internazionale. Inter miss the vast majority of their defence for this game but ex-AC Milan star Leonardo still makes them play attacking football and you have to expect them to score at least once here. I’m just surprised that the odds on both sides scoring are as generous as they are.

Team news – AC Milan miss Ibrahimovic, Merkel, Jankulovski, Ambrosini, Inzaghi, and have doubts over Bonera whereas Internazionale miss Lucio, Coutinho, Chivu, and Samuel.

Verdict: Both sides to score at 5/6.

Jaguares vs Pumas UNAM  – away win at 13/10.

Jaguares are notorious in Mexico for not scoring goals and against one of the meanest defences in the Primera Division, I fancy that to still be the case tonight. Pumas UNAM are playing very well and are simply a better side than Jaguares. Pumas have beaten better side than Jaguares away from home lately in their usual 0-1 style and with momentum behind them, it looks worthwhile to take a punt on them winning tonight against their out-of-form opponents at decent odds of 13/10.

Verdict: Pumas UNAM to win at 13/10.

Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala vs Katowice – lay Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala at 5/6.

The hosts for this game are massively focusing on the Puchar Polski and you can understand why. However, it’s turned them into idiots when they play in Liga 1 and there’s also a good chance that they’ll rest players for this game in preparation of their away game with Lech Poznan in the next few days. Katowice are playing really well at the moment and although they miss star winger Karwan for this game, they’re still a solid unit with plenty of momentum and let’s face it – their league placing was false. Katowice are more than capable of getting a draw here or even winning if the hosts fail to score goals yet again so laying Podbeskidzie at 5/6 appeals to me today.

Team news – Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala miss Sokolowski and have doubts over Malinowski whereas Katowice miss Karwan and have doubts over Pitry.

Verdict: Lay Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala at 5/6.

Sportul Studentesc vs Universitatea Craiova - away win with draw no bet at 5/6.

Sportul are all but relegated already in Romania. They’re twelve points adrift of safety and are utterly bereft of confidence, from their fans to their players. Some players have openly admitted to wanting to leave the financially ruined club as they’ve not been paid for months and ultimately, this is a doomed side. Craiova aren’t much better off financially but they’re at least composed as a unit and will make life hard for Sportul here. Sportul have lost a lot of consecutive games now whereas Craiova are at least scoring results here and there, despite a lack of threat in attack. It’s hard to believe that Craiova are priced as long as they are with even the fans of Sportul confessing their fear of losing this game so my call is the away win with draw no bet cover as there’s a substantial quality gap between the two and Craiova are arriving in this game as a unit; Sportul are arriving already defeated mentally.

Verdict: Universitatea Craiova to win with draw no bet at 5/6.

Amkar Perm’ vs Krylya Sovetov Samara – home win at evens.

Amkar like beating Krylya at home. They’ve done it for five seasons in a row now so there’s already a foundation for it happening again today. Perm is hard enough for away games already but against a well-organised and well-disciplined Amkar side, it is made even harder. It helps that Krylya bring little attacking threat into this game and also that they somehow lost 1-0 at Spartak Nal’chik last match to lower morale. I expect a droll and low-scoring affair here but despite Kushev’s departure for Amkar, the hosts should record their usual win here, although I’d avoid it if the odds drop.

Verdict: Amkar Perm’ to win at evens.

Kuban Krasnodar’ vs Spartak Moscow – home win with draw no bet at 11/10.

Just like when he was in charge of Unirea Urziceni in Romania, Dan Petrescu is making a side built on belief and good football again, although this time with Kuban Krasnodar’. The hosts don’t have much in the way of stars, just like when Petrescu was with Unirea, but they play very well together and you saw what damage that did to Spartak Moscow when they faced a very similar Rostov-na-Donu side. Given that Spartak are almost certain to rest players here due to their European committments next week, I can’t, help but side with the hosts here. Krasnodar is a tough away game, just like most Russian away games, but with the hosts so hard to penetrate and the visitors having their attention elsehere, backing a home win with draw no bet cover looks decent value to me today.

Verdict: Kuban Krasnodar’ to win with draw no bet a 11/10.

Sivasspor vs Besiktas JK - both sides to score at 4/5.

Sivasspor have really put their backs into it since returning from the winter break. They’ve been scoring goals and attacking purposefully so they should be taken seriously now, irrespective of their league placing. Their defence needs some time to become strong again but the likes of Grosicki makes this Sivasspor side dangerous in attack. It helps that Besiktas JK don’t have it in their arsenal to defend properly at any given time and that’s understandable, given how incredibly strong their attack is. However, they’ve conceded four goals in three games and miss defender Ersan so they’re far from assured at the back. They’re regaining some of their form and even bring some momentum into this game but with Sivasspor having won three out of their last four games and having scored for eight consecutive games, I’m definitely not entering the 1×2 market for this one. However, backing both sides to score looks a good value bet to me with the above in mind so that’s my call here.

Team news – Sivasspor miss Mehmet Nas and Ivanovs whereas Besiktas JK miss Guti, Ersan, Rustu, and Necip.

Verdict: Both sides to score at 4/5.
